Wondering what the fastest truck out right now would be, STOCK, and under 30K. No suped up kits or packages like the Lightning. Full or compact, V8 or V6, 2WD or 4WD, what is the overall fastest truck out (this includes 0-60, and highway acceleration). We're talking relatively recent too, 1990 and up... thanks in advance for the input!

Fastest stock truck out now would probably be the Hemi powered regular cab Ram. If you want supercharged or turbocharged, the 99-03 Lightnings are probably the fastest. Syclone probably second.

V8 dakota is pretty peppy.. I'm not a truck guy though. Pretty sure none of the v6 trucks would be the fastest though.. :p

What do you mean "no suped up kits"? The lightning is a factory stock truck, if you're excluding stuff you can buy on a dealer's lot, then there are no fast trucks out now.

You sure about the Ram? I heard it weighs alot (which could slow it down off the line...)

Lightning - which can be had for right around $30k with some agressive negotiating.

Well Rob, most stock ones are doing low 15's/high 14's at the track. My friend has a Quad Cab 03 Ram with the non Hemi V8 and it's pretty peppy off the line despite the extra weight. Regular cab probably weighs about 5200lbs (just a guess). Like notfred said, a Lightning is stock considering it's a factory added supercharger. You could probably pick up a 99-00 for under $18K, and with a few mods run 12's.

The lightning is a specialty truck (hence SVT) and they make what, 100K a year?? Which means it's probably hard to buy one right off the lot.

My question was what is the fastest truck out of what you can buy now... not if you thought trucks are "fast".

OK if you want a fast truck, buy a early 90's s-10. Put a Chevy 350 in it, supercharge it and wham-o, fastest truck for $12K on the planet.

I love those trucks. I rode in a Lightning that was turbocharged and had nitrous -- he was a drag racer but the truck was in street trim pretty much. I almost peed in my pants when we started doing dry cheerios in a shopping center parking lot. I think it was a '95 and they've only gotten cooler looking since then.

Yes it's made by SVT but they make several thousand a year. It's not hard at all to buy one from a dealer - you just have to find a dealer that is authorized to sell SVT vehicles because not all of them do. I can walk into any SVT authorized dealership in the Dallas area and have my pick of L's, Cobra's, and Focus'.

Have you ever even been to a SVT Ford dealer? There are Cobras and Lightnings parked out front next to the Focuses, Mustangs and F-150s. Yes, you can buy a Lightning right off the lot.

Thanks for the input... I was thinking about getting a truck but my only req is that it be fast. The fastest you can buy (besides the Lightning, that's a little out of my price range!).

Nope, never been to one... but can't really afford the Lightning... my budget is 25K (so something used would have to do)! :)

Since you said 1990+, why not go used? A new Hemi powered Ram will run you at least $22k+. A used L will run you under $20.

My dad's 89' chevy is fast but it's not all stock. It has a few simple power mods like flowmaster exhaust and k&n filters along with special pulleys.

Crap I didn't know they were that cheap :) 24.5 for one with 36K miles? Something sounds fishy.

So what do you think, the Hemi or the L?!

The fastest affordable new truck would be a short bed regular cab 2wd Ram 1500 with the Hemi, limited slip, and 3.92 gear, heavy-duty cooling.

Curb weight is 4635. Sticker is about $22500. According to edmunds.com it should cost $15811 after rebates and adjusted for normal discounts. ($4500 rebate)

My own Ram is similar except mine is 4wd and long bed, which adds about 500 lbs. It's fast for such a big vehicle, and it's got great ride and handling.
