Somehow I doubt most of those are legal......

downloading a tv show thats broadcast FREE OTA, that ANYONE has access to? Don't see anything wrong w/ that...

...of course, the OP is wasting his time with crappy PDTV LOL rips, no point in even watching a 300mb rip of a show like the unit, 3GB+ 720p .ts is where its at...

You should probably invest in the new KillerNIC card like I did. It reduced the lag in my satellite connection.

Megabit? Megabyte?

How in the fvck is megahertz a download metric???

Isn't MPAA Canadian?

 Motion Picture Association of AMERICA?

Isn't Canada in NORTH AMERICA?

That always confused me why America only strictly refers to the USA. There's a south and North America. Aren't Canadians, Mexicans, and the 12 South American Countries Americans also?

to answer the question, i think 279 was my highest. usually around 100 if that.

Even if in the end the courts decide that it's not illegal to trade TV shows, it's like shooting yourself in the foot. If the shows don't generate enough advertising dollars, they get cancelled. So we can all go download shows, but they won't be there because we're not watching them on tv.

Here is a good breakdown of the background and legal arguments:

http://www.law.duke.edu/journals/dltr/articles/2005dltr0007.html

Edit - I'm not saying tv will disappear. They will just have to change their business model like the music industry has and start selling downloads on the internet.

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), originally called the Motion Pictures Producers and Distributors Association, is a non-profit trade association based in the United States

EXACTLY! I wish the MPAA would quit complaining about things, and ROLL with the punches just as the music industry slowly has. Their old mediums are a dying art (they'll last a while, because plenty of people still watch normal tv)

But what will happen is - tv shows will start (some already have) using more embedded advertising. Instead of commercial breaks, they'll just have people use products IN the show - sortof like how that movie truman show was, truman's wife would occasionally pickup a product and throw out a catch line for it. Personally that's fine w/ me. if companies want to pay for that kind of advertising, let them, I notice it more because its IN the show and part of it - its not interrupting my viewing pleasure :)

It belongs to the station, you cannot record it, edit out commercials, then distribute it how you like.

I'm not saying that I don't think it's ok, I just know that it's illegal and that is the reasoning.

But I'm not counted in the ratings.

And I download items when I get bad OTA HD reception usually (or sometimes when two items are on at the same time, though I usually just record it on my other HTPC).

Product placement is the term you're looking for.

Demonoid is great. I can send an invite as long as you are going to seed as much as you download.
