How does this compare to the 970 Evo Plus? I mean, looking at CrystalDiskMark it seems better but practically speaking they are almost the same price too. Like I said, my primary use case is gaming, and the $200 price point is not too bad for me.

If speed is your major concern, wait for Samsung's pci4 drive due later this year. If you can't wait, then take a look at the Corsair Force MP600, or the Aorus in your post. They both are faster than the 970 Evo Plus. Take a look at the webpage below. I like it because it covers speed & best bang for the buck.

to bad my use was for laptop but nvme prices are almost the same if you have enough slots/ adapters or lanes.ebays! they suggested buy new so you know what the usage is. if it was enough discount i might buy used idk. kinda close to the price of nvme and i dont have u.2 so i didnt look into it.

As you guys know i am on a never ending quest for uber fast storage at the best price / cap possible, and it has lead me here. I present you the not so well known to most PM983. This is a U.2 Form factor NVme. That means, this will not fit in the typical M.2 slot without the proper adapter...
I would never buy a used enterprise SSD regardless of how cheap it is.
The intel P4500 is also a good runner up with 3dxpoint.
Basically makes the drive almost fault proof, because they get slower as the drive degrades, instead of just straight up dying on you.
