Very helpful, thanks -- when do you expect the 4.0 drives that are worth it to start hitting the market? I'm not going to build my PC until around April, so I'm content to wait for a little bit.

So then the Samsung 970 Evo is the best bet? It's going to be a while yet. Likely Q3.

How does this compare to the 970 Evo Plus? I mean, looking at CrystalDiskMark it seems better but practically speaking they are almost the same price too. Like I said, my primary use case is gaming, and the $200 price point is not too bad for me.AORUS NVMe Gen4 SSD 1TBï½AORUS - GIGABYTE Global

If speed is your major concern, wait for Samsung's pci4 drive due later this year. If you can't wait, then take a look at the Corsair Force MP600, or the Aorus in your post. They both are faster than the 970 Evo Plus. Take a look at the webpage below. I like it because it covers speed & best bang for the buck. How does this compare to the 970 Evo Plus? Yes, this SSD has a much better performance than the Samsung 970 EVO Plus. Here are the benchmark results I got with this PCIe 4.0 supporting NVMe SSD:So I've been looking at the Sabrent 1TB Rocket drive (pci4) and it seems to be the fastest and best bang for the buck NVME drive.
I have tested them both. Here are the results (above: 500 GB Samsung EVO Plus, below: 1 TB Sabrent Rocket 4.0):How does this compare to the 970 Evo Plus?

Review - The ever so Infamous Samsung PM983 NVMe and all its Glory.
As you guys know i am on a never ending quest for uber fast storage at the best price / cap possible, and it has lead me here. I present you the not so well known to most PM983. This is a U.2 Form factor NVme. That means, this will not fit in the typical M.2 slot without the proper adapter...forums.anandtech.com
I would never buy a used enterprise SSD regardless of how cheap it is.
The intel P4500 is also a good runner up with 3dxpoint.
Basically makes the drive almost fault proof, because they get slower as the drive degrades, instead of just straight up dying on you.
oh sorry they gave the wrong drive number in my post then..I am not pranking you When I Googled PM985 U.2 couldn't find anything. Now that aigomorla posted it seems you meant 98-3-, not 98-5.
i just cut and past oops, so you wouldnt use the enterprise ssd if it was free? /shrug i dont use a laptop for anything that exciting ;"(Intel 660p is the deal that replaced the ex920.
The HP ex920 was a great deal at its time. The intel slaughtered it giving you a price of sub 190 dollars for 2TB.
However your not going to get cheap SSD's period as Dram prices have gone up.
And i expect it go up even more especially with china and the corona virus, as well as Samsung having a blackout.
You may see better deals on Enterprise drives @ 4TB on ebay tho.
I did make a post on the PM985 which is a 3.84TB NVMe, U.2 factor that i got for $425 new, which i felt that was a great deal.
so you wouldnt use the enterprise ssd if it was free?
they asked fora 1tb and you suggest a 500gb? strange. it is not a great deal and is to smallis the WD Black 500gb for $80 a good price/performance?
