Fastest Speed Driven

Here's a question for you Anandtech readers:

What is the fastest speed you have ever driven in a car? The car can be anyone's as long as it is a real car - no video game cars allowed.

My personal is 145mph down highway 280 in the Bay Area, CA at 4 in the morning. I was falling asleep, so I went as really fast and turned my headlights off until I couldn't take it and then turned them back on screaming my head off.

konichiwa: bwahaha, been there

Actually did 150+ in a Corvette they gave me to test drive for a week....the digital speedo read over 150 but I was too scared to look down anymore and the last number I saw was 150.

Lets see,
In my friends 2000 vr6 jetta we sat pretty at 155Mph on the QEW going north towards toronto.
Felt like we were doing 70.

And a canadian friend has acura integra souped up past a R type.
He likes to do an average of 160.
But I dont like driving with him much. Seen my life flash by TOO many times.
😀

112 MPH in a Honda Civic...silly speed regulator. Only at 4500 rpm too. 6600 rpm redline.

Highway 60 in Riverside County, empty from outskits of Riverside to Cabazon...just a 15 mile stretch of straight..

Brtspears2, no - not downhill. It was going towards San Jose, but at that point, I was going around a bend. My car has around 300hp and I could have gone faster (my top end is rev limited at 153mph), but I was actually scared to.

I only did it once and don't intend to again. I try to drive at sensible times so I don't fall asleep at the wheel.

I've driven at 125 Mph. There are very few cars on that strip of Highway 5 and no cops at all past the 580 overpass here in California.

The fastest I've driven is 117 MPH in a friend's Prelude. We were in Kansas or something, fully loaded down with gear on our way to college. He tried it too, got it up to 119.

Fastest I've gone with someone else driving the car is about 130 in my dad's old '88 Mustang.

I went 105 on President George Bush Freeway in Plano, TX. At that speed my car was shaking real bad (Oldsmobile Cutlass SL 95), and I got real scared about dyin, so I layed off the accelerator a lil bit hehe

Hey, I did ~140 in my '89 'stang when I beat a 'vette in a race a few years back, then I crashed into a light pole and totaled my car (bad Ford brakes!:|).

Did about 110 for around 5 miles on I-90 across South Dakota in my Monte Carlo Z34. I've also been riding shotgun in an 89's Celica that we had up to 125.

What speed did you run into the light pole at?
Running into a light pole at even 100 would HURT like a |3itch. Damn! I'm surprised you're still alive! 😛

147mph in a souped up Mustang. Of course at that speed the wind noise was ridiculous and the car felt like it would either fall apart or fly away because of the lift on the front end. 120mph in a modified GMC Jimmy in 4wd-hi on a partially snow covered hiway. 125mph in my Grand Am. And the 110-125 neighborhood with my other two Mustangs. Looking up at those numbers makes me now realize that I really gotta slow down.

135 in my old 69' charger, it had a little left, but not much... pretty fun though I ran out of straight stretch...

108mph in the '83 Nissan Pickup.

138mph in my old '78 Datsun 280Z.

122mph in the '90 Prelude.

I've owned 3 cars🙂
