Fastest SATA RAID 1 drives

For the second time in the past year, I've had a Maxtor die on me. Never again.

I want to buy two drives for SATA RAID 1. They can be any brand, aside from Maxtor, but the faster the better. I have an ABIT IS7-G with on board RAID 1, but I will only use that if it is as fast as an external card. Is it?

I need larger drives, I would like to use 200 or 250 gig drives, so the raptors aren't really an option. What are my best options for drives and, if needed, RAID cards?

Also can I use additional IDE drives in at the same time as my SATA RAID 1 setup?

Its a SuperMicro case, and I have plenty of fans. I don't think it was heat that killed the drive. I heard the drive make a very loud clunk and after that I couldn't boot or repair in the recovery console. PowerMax reported an error as well. Same problem with a different maxtor drive and different computer.

I'm looking at this drive: http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=22-148-064&depa=1

Two questions:

1. What is SATA NCQ
2. Is the Segate I linked to above as fast as the Maxtor 6Y160P0 (which died). The Maxtor has UltraDMA 133, 9.3 ms average seek time, and 8MB Cache Buffer.

I don't see a speed (66,100,133) rating for the segate drive how come?
