Hello all,

I have several machines that are being turned back in as surplus, and I need to know what the fastes method of wiping the data from the drive would be?? Id love to find something that maybe I could put on a bootable CD pop in and let it go - does something like that exist???

Thanks
DTK

Yeah, a low level format. The "qiuck" is quick, but the full blown takes a while depending on how large the HD is. You can prolly d/l it on a floppy from the manufacturer of the HD. You can with Maxtor anyway-it's Maxblast or PowerMax,

Is there anything more generic or faster??? I dont want to have to download for every type of drive... there are at least 3 manufacturers and id have to remove the drive to find out first.

wdclear works on all of the brands i've tried. You can put on a bootable floppy, and it will load a DOS prompt.

If your still look for a program, try dban and set it to write only once over every location on the drive. It's a bootable disk that loads up a slimed down linux kernal.
