Fastest Hard Drive

Well I am fixing to get a new hard drive but I would like one of the fastest drives out there. So what is the fastest IDE hard drive on the market. I will also be overclocking the heck out of it so take that into consideration for your recommendation.😀

There is no real answer to this questions as running a series of benchmarks show different winners. Overall, however, the IBM 60GXP seems to come out on top the most followed by the 75GXP and the DiamondMax Plus60

I don't understand... Why IBM? There 75GXP's broke, yet you still reccomend IBM drives?

Almost any other company gets reamed for having a bad product, but not IBM?

I'd go Maxtor.

From my experience they have only had trouble with the 45gb 75gxp, correct me if im wrong...not sure... But i would still recommend the 60gxp...

Alright, i wasnt sure because i have only read bad things about the 45gb model, and i own 2 30gb models and they run fine...

wait a minute.....i have a 45 GB 75GXP!!!!

WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT???

i haven't had anything wrong with it, but what COULD go wrong with it?!?

I have a 45gb 75gxp that's running super good. No rma here. I hate it when people think that when one defective line makes the whole company and newer products defective lol. Don't involve me with Maxtor and Western Digital failures, seen too many in my life time. Check out some websites for speedy drives, IBM and Maxtor are on top i believe.. IBM here!

Quantum Fireball Plus AS. Amazing drives.

Cheaper but just as fast as the IBMs and handle high fsb like a dream.

Nuff said.

I agree with Trader05 here. The 75GXP has gotten a bad rap in a couple of forums (storagereview being the main one). But people must recognize that just because about 30 or 40 people have posted to forums complaining that their drives have failed doesn't mean the line is bad. The 75 GXP was a VERY popular drive, and it stands to reason that because of its popularity, even at failure rates equal to that of other drives, a larger number will fail simply because of the higher quantities. Add to that the propensity for people who frequent these forums either to own or know someone who owns a 75GXP which has had problems, and whoila! We have ourselves a nice rumor about a defective product.

Every statement from IBM I've seen has continued to deny that there is any significantly higher return rate for the 75GXP drives than their other lines.

So, back to the point of this thread, I think IBM is a great hard drive manufacturer and you won't go wrong with a 60GXP.

Thanks guys, I guess the concensus is that the IBM 60GXP is pretty much the one to get. Anybody seen any really good deals on these drives?
