Currently I'm running an Athlon 1200 in there and since thse older Athlon cpus are becomming so cheap, I was thinking it could be a nice upgrade for very little money. What can I possibly run in there? It's the KT133A chipset. I know I should be able to look this up, but I have a feeling it will run higher than they say with custom settings etc. (Will it run a Tbred?)

Well I ran a 2000+ palomino in mine for several months with no problems. I believe Msi only officially supports up to 1800+ palomino core if i remember right. Pretty sure tbreds are unsupported though.

With the kt133a chipset you will not be able to run a chip that has a FSB that is any faster than 100/200Mhz.

Basically, you are maxed out to a 1.4 Ghz tbird- which is probably more expensive than a 1800+ mobo+cpu combo(because it is at the top of that upgrade path).

You may be able to pop an 1800+ or other XP chip, however it will not run to full spec. It will probably take the default multiplier of whatever chip, and use 100/200 as the FSB.

What's the point of a T-bred for an old board? The only difference between 266 T-breds and Palominos is heat disipation.

Going from a Tbird 1.2ghz to Palomino 1.6ghz will be hardly a very noticable uprade. Save your $$$$ and get an Athlon 64 2800/Chaintech vnf-250 board which will feel ALOT faster.:)
