I was just wondering what is the fastest consumer level PC you can thnk of off the top of your head. I would assume it is running some sort of unlocked volt modded Pentium 4 Prescott with liquid nitrogen or something to that extent. Anyone know some of the top ones?

Gaming or some useless FLOPS or xStone bench?

Even for gaming, it depends on the game, ATI for HL2, nVidia for Doom3.

Oooo jeez i didn't think about that. *Sigh* well i guess if im talking about consumer level more gaming than processing power. SO IN GENERAL what is the fastest consumer level computer.

EIther ATI or Nvidia has to pull ahead as one will eventually max out OC more than the other.

Why not a prescott. I would be willing to bet with some good ol liquid hydrogen and a rare unlocked prescott with some awesome memory and a volt mod the prescott would be the best. The AMD's generally dont OC as well as the Intels. Remember a prescott processor is meant to be ramped up to ~5ghz or so.

i think an FX53 overclocked to upwards of 3Gh on such cooling would own any prescott.

Well the current Prescott fabs can't make it past 4Ghz with the best equiptment. And just because the Athlons don't overclock as well doesn't mean that they are worse at all.

It's like comparing a turbocharged V6 with low torque to a V10 with lots of torque. :sun:

heck useing liquid nitrogen you could overclock the heck out of a Fx-53. yeah the P4s can get impressive ghz but you gotta remeber that the athlons run cooler and that the Fxs are unlocked. so they overclokc good. I know someone on water doing 3.128 GHZ.

FX53, but that's debatable as is an "enthusiast" part consumer level? Either way It's most likely an AMD chip. It just makes sense, on stock cooling top of the line P4s and A64s perform similarly with the A64 having the slight advantage and there isn't much reason to believe either one would behave exceptionally well with super cooling vs. the other and therefore each would be pushed to their limmits meaning an insanely OCed P4 and an insanely OCed A64 would most likley compare similarly just as they do without the cooling, again with the advantage going to the AMD chip.

I remember that the site that must not be named (Toms Hardware) managed to get a northwood running at 5.25GHZ by submersing it in liquid N2. They could only boot into windows however.

Holy Snikes.

even more Shnikes

on a side note what's the deal with prescotts. intel designed them for 5+ GHz right? so...wtf they aren't any better overclockers than nothwoods, yet a bigg chunck of intel's engineers spent the past year or so since nothwood ramping was going well designing a better cpu that sofar is worse. did they forget to remove the ass enclosings around their heads or is their some more technology theat needs fixing first

based off of the design goals of nothwood (3.0 i believe) vs the best N2 overclock i've seen (5.25 from tomshardware) shouldn't prescotts be getting 6-7 by now with N2?

Actually, Northwood was designed to go to 4Ghz, and Prescott (or at least the so-called "NetBurst" architecture/pipeline) to 10Ghz. (Perhaps only once they reach the 65nm production process.) Somehow, I don't think that they are going to reach that goal, seeing as how they hit the thermal power-dissipation "redline" at only almost 4Ghz.

I predict that they will go quad-core on the desktop consumer platform, before they break 5Ghz. (Although 65nm will likely be necessary for either.)

Hmmm... seems kind of vague. Not specific on Video Card and very slanted towards ATI... performs 64% IIRC better than the 6800.... WHICH ONE!?!?

Also what is SATA-X?

Is whole post a joke that im just missing.

think either maximum pc or cpu mag had a thing on high end builders a while back. there are a few companies that sell very over clocked fridgerant cooled systems. the costs... i think it was atlesat 8k or something.

In addition

There's a good writeup on Michael's @ THG (of all places) and if still there, a video clip.

Allright, well for real, what would you guys think the fastest consumer level PC would be. I mean what components would be used and what not. Basically what is the bleeding edge, top o the line, rich person system.
