So, what NEW, UNMODIFIED car would you say is the fastest for under 20 grand?

i just came across the dodge SRT for 20 grand, 0-60 in 5.7 seconds or something, which isn't half bad.
also test driven the mitsubishi lancer ralliart, which is FAST...

what you guys think?

edit: changed from "car under 20 grand" to "non-modified car under 20k"

Cars available in the US?

Find yourself a 1989 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am for $12K-$18K. Put $1000 in mods into it and you've got yourself a nasty high eleven second ride. Best of all, it's a daily driver.

In this price range I certainly wouldn't concentrate on the fastest, because outside of the SRT-4 there really isn't anything blazing fast and many of the quicker ones are all souped up econoboxes within a few clicks away from each other.

Instead, I would concentrate on what else you want in the car - size, milage, insurance premiums, warranty, resale, options, saftey, ect.

i'd go with the mini cooper, but isn't that more than 20k ?

if it is i'll most likely choose a Civic SI. I hear the Sentra SE-R Spec V has tranny issues.
