Fastest AGP card?

My mobo only supports AGP, and I want to upgrade my graphics card to the fastest available without doing upgrading else.

Can you please give me some suggestions as to the fastest couple of Nvidia cards available in this format?
 
fastest agp card will be the 7800 GS and it will perform in between an x850xt pe and 7800 gt. it will come out in a week or 2 and will cost a pretty penny. eventually, the price should level down to $260-300ish to lean between the 6800gs and the 7800gt, but since it'll be the fastest agp card and probably the last, the price might just stay inflated for a long time.

no point in getting a new mobo. he wants highest performance for gaming, and getting a new mobo will only decrease his budget. he'd likely have to get a new cpu anyways.
 
I'm only interested in an Nvidia AGP card as I've had bad experiences with ATI in the past.

Apart from the upcoming 7800GS, what are the next fastest in line of Nvidia AGP cards?

Budget not relevant, 19" LCD, Athlon64 3500, 2GB Ram.

not really, I wouldn't say it'd be the last card, but agp should prolong itself until they soak out like ISA slot technology.

isa was for multi-purpose components. agp is strictly a graphical interface. i'm still running agp, and i hope that more agp cards will come out. there's a reason why i said probably. most people who can afford to buy a high end video card tend to keep their computers up to date also. they would also be able to make the jump to pci-e.
 
So to confirm, the fastest Nvidia AGP cards in order are:

1) 7800GS
2) 6800Ultra
3) 6800GT
4) 6800GS

Any other Nvidia AGP cards in contention with the above?

If unlocked and overclocked, the 6800NU and 6800XT are very fast.
 
I tend to favor NVidia myself, but why aren't you even considering ATI cards?

Lately it seems like NVidia drivers suck, especially when you've got multiple video cards. NVidia's latest drivers don't recognize my old GeForce3, won't install a GeForce 6600 if there are any other cards in the system (you have to open up your computer and take out the other cards when you install Windows until you get the drivers installed), won't work at all with a GeForce 6 combined with a FireMV card, and get unstable panning between monitors on different cards.

I've had several bad experiences with ATI cards last year, but none at all with Nvidia.
I'm only going to get one graphics card, so the multiple card thing is not an issue for me.

why don't you get whatever offers the best performance per $$?? it like the hdd thing, they will all fail but some people will swear by one brand, and it will fail if used long enough.

if you use/build computers long enough you will probably experience failure from every brand you try
