My sister doesnt want to pay $40 a month for cable so she wants a cheap yet fast ISP. Most ISP's connect to the same number for some reason. If thats the case does it really matter? I was thinking Netzero. Please reply asap.

I used to be on mindspring, which is actually earthlink now.

The connections were good. They were stable and were just about maxing out 56k spec.

I recomend you go with them if you can get them in your area.

Actually, Since dialup is $20-$25/month and it makes your primary phone line busy while you are online, I can't think of any reason why she shouldn't just get a damn cable connection.

I might be losing DSL soon (we're moving, not sure if DSL is available where Im going. No Cable internet in our city.)

Since DSL is the only broadband option Im thinking about Earthlink if I have to go back to dialup. I had them/mindspring before and it was pretty good.

Are the "Dish things" (DirectPC?) that they sell at Best Buy any good? I might look into one of them as well if they are not expensive.

Actually AOL is pretty fast, or at least when I downloaded some stuff at my friends house it was. Although I wouldn't recommend AOL to anyone.

The speed depends on the area you live in. MSN seems to have the fastest on the east coast of NC.

But look for...

Netzero I think it is around $10
At&T use to have a $7 but they just changed their rates so look their
And MSN seems to be very Fast, BUT again depends on YOUR LINE and the Area you live in.
Also having a V.92 modem does not hurt.

No, it doesn't really matter. With most 56k ISPs I have averaged 49.3k

Unfortunately I have 56k...long story. Anyway, I have MSN, and it connects/downloads connects at 50.6 kb/s. Dunno if that is any good.
