Hi,
I am considering changing my parallel cable to a USB for the printer, but are there any other ways of having the data be transfered to the printer faster? Other than new drivers. Thanks.

Not necessarily faster going from PP to USB but let us know.

Other than that try a faster printer. Also Win 9x will start to print faster than XP on big files because of the way they process the file.

Sure. Buy a network TCP/IP printer. They start at around $1500, but are hard to find under about $2500. They kick a$$ ! All you need is money. I got a Phaser 850 that is normally about $3000, and it only cost $1500 used (with ink sticks).

You can get a networked printer significanly cheaper than $1500, especially if you're willing to buy a used one on eBay. I picked up a Laserjet 4SI/MX with a duplexer, a Postscript card and a Jetdirect card for $150 a couple years ago.

I've even seen new networked laser printers on eBay for < $1000 pretty much every time I've looked.

As far as the original question is concerned though, you will likely see a substantial improvement in speed simply from going from parallel to USB. ECP/EPP parallel ports are theoretically faster than USB 1.0/1.1 but when the rubber meets the road, the USB solution is almost always faster while utilizing less CPU.

Hope this helps.
