Get a ginger root from the grocery store, slice out a US Quarter size piece from the center and suck on it for at least an hour. Repeat three times a day.

Gargle hot/warm water with tons of salt, it'll soothe your throat a lot. Do this twice a day at minimum - in the morning and just before you sleep so it can soothe your throat for a few hours at night. I've had a few sore throats over this past year or so and each time, this was what helped me most.

Salt water gargle is the answer. If you dont know how to gargle, learn. it isnt that hard. So what if you make a mess in the bathroom anyway?

Salt water gargle helps kill the bacteria, best way to get rid of sore throat.

1 TBSP of salt in 8 oz of warm water. Make sure you tilt your head back and get the saltwater right in the back of your throat until you almost gag it out.. You want to get the solution to where the bacteria is.

Tea + Whiskey + Honey + Lemon (Hot Toddy)

Edit: It'll help you sleep too (assuming decaf tea)

Take several grams of vitamin C everyday until you are better. I would say to start with 3000 milligrams(3 grams) each day as a minimum until you are well.

Listen to me... I used to be Pre-Med. ;)

In addition to eating Vitamin C, gargle LISTERINE.

Listerine kills the crap that is causing your sore throat as it is an infection basically. You will feel the results INSTANTLY.

Buy some cold-eeze throat drops at the store. That stuff knocks out colds the very next day. You may have the sniffles but most of the sneezing and coughing goes away and best of all NO SORE THROAT

1) Sleep is the KEY!!
2) Chicken soup / honey tea
3) Leave a cough drop in your mouth when you sleep.
4) Zinc lozenges (Cold-ees) are good right before you start feeling all the symptoms. If you've already got runny nose, aches, fever, it's too late.

Vitamin C is a myth...placebo effect.
