Fast printer recommendations?

I'm looking for an inexpensive, fast printer with quick warm-up times.

I don't care so much about pages per minute, as I don't print many pages at a time; but when I print something, I want it very quickly. I think this would probably be a laser printer, but it doesn't have to be. I don't need color.

What kind of things should I be looking for, and are there any specific brands or models that make a printer that can spit out the first page quickly?
 
there is a canon laser all in one, it retails for about $250. It has almost has NO warm up time. If you make a copy, from the time you press the 'copy' button, to the time you have the new copy in your hand is about 8 seconds. Model number is the MF4150, its a GREAT machine.
 
My Canon iP4300 (current ver. is iP4500) is plenty fast for me. Takes 18 sec from pushing the On button to ready to print - I just timed it. If your first print is at the highest quality settings, it may decide to clean the head before printing for maybe another 15 sec (haven't timed that).

The Canon 4000 series has been PC Magazine's #1 general purpose ink jet printers for 3 generations (4000, 4200, 4300) now (I don't think they've tested the 4500 yet) if that makes any diff to you. Mine does very crisp text and knockout photos - no clogging, no paper jams. The threee Canons I had before this one had no clogging or jamming as well. But I'm a good riffler and even riffle the stack if I haven't printed for a while - surely helps prevent jams.

Are the warm-up times you are talking about from off to printing, or from standby to printing? If you are talking about printing from the state of being already on, my HP LaserJet 1012 printed the first page of this thread in 10.53 seconds From the time that I pressed print to the time it started printing was about 1.9 seconds.
 
yea, laser printers really don't have much spool up time. about 10 seconds to whirl up and then it prints the page in the time it takes to suck it in and spit it out. do you really need a page in less than 15 seconds? every additional page after the printers woken up is near instant anyways. and you wouldn't want it spooled up at all times anyways as i'm sure that would waste a ton of power. a t idle the hp i have uses maybe a wattor two. anyways for non color stuff laser clarity and ability to use cheap paper wins

Also I meant quick in terms of standby to start printing.
 
The HP P2015 starts printing the instant you press "Print". It is so fast spitting out the first page it is hard to beleive. I have installed about 10 of these in my clients offices and I am amazed everytime. Also, with the HP the drum is a part of the toner cartridge so you never have to replace it seperately, which is very cool.

It is a monochrome laser and you can get one for $250 after rebates right now.

If that's the case, then the Canon ink jets start printing as soon as the spooler gives it some data. No delay at all.
