Fast Init option on FastTrak RAID controllers

What is the fast init option when creating an array using a Promise FastTrak controller (S150 SX4). I have looked in the manuals, their web site and don't see it listed anywhere?
 
Man I still have not found out what this is. It seems like it is just a general RAID option and not anything Promise specific though.
