I'd like to share with you my favorite site on the net. I started out as a client, asking my fair share of questions. I liked the site so much, I decided to become a volunteer tech, and I've been so for about a year now. I absolutely love it.

Some info about the site:

protonic.com is an online community that provides technical support to computer users for free. We prefer to call our users "Clients," because we have the philosophy that, despite our service being free, you should still receive the highest quality technical support. Each protonic.com support Technician is a volunteer. We have been featured in many media publications including USA Weekend, Yahoo! Internet Life and .net magazine.

If you have a computer problem - anything from hardware to HTML problems - then submit your question to us for help! We support nearly everything: PCs, Macs, Unix and PDAs.

We're looking for techs, too! Helping protonic.com is very rewarding - if you get satisfaction from helping out other internet users, or just want to advance your computer knowledge by tackling real-life problems - then why not consider joining our team!

 
First, protonic.com gets you an answer that's guaranteed to be from a tech. There's a Quality Assurance department to make sure you're getting answers that are acceptable and not just random shots in the dark.

Communication is easier because you don't have 8 different people telling you random ways to fix it. It's easier to read an email than it is to weed through a forum. Plus it's in English (or other languages!) that's also easy to read.

I'm not saying this forum is useless, as it's definetly a source for tech support. It's merely an alternate source.

There are two main reasons for this.

First, some information shared between the client and tech is personal and publishing this would be violating the client's privacy.

Second, we are a free service. If we were to publish our answers to the public, it would allow paid sites to simply take our answers and use them for commercial gain.

Then it's useless. The moron that thought up this is creating more work by not letting others search for information that might solve their issues.

I guess I couldn't expect much more from a site that spams other forums. :roll:
 
Whats with the flaming guys?

I just signed up for an account, and depending on the answer I get and if my problem is fixed (it's been a terrible problem for 6 months now, and I've gotten no answers) then I might apply to be a volunteer tech.

I clearly stated above why we cannot publish questions and answers on the site. It's not my choice, but we have valid reasons for not doing so.

 
Well I figured I'd give them a try. So much for being fast. I always get fast responses on anandtech. I put in a support request right after I posted here, and 10 hours later I haven't heard squat, I would certainly not call that fast..

Fast is a relative term. If you're debating calling a technician to come to your home or bring your computer in for service, it'll likely be weeks before your problem is fixed (or you'll be paying top dollar). General turnaround time is anywhere from a few hours to a few days. I wish all problems could be resolved in a matter of minutes, but it just doesn't work out that way.

Like I said, I'm not saying everyone should use protonic all the time because it's better in every way. The forums are a great way for tech support and I'm not denying them in any way. I'm an active member on here, I love this place! I tell all my friends about it, be it for hot deals, stuff for sale, advice on buying a new video card... you name it! Do I get anything out of spreading the word about the AT forums? Hell no. Same goes for protonic.

All I'm asking is for a little patience and an open mind.

Yeah, that's the server which we rent. We're not based out of anywhere in particular as we've got techs living all over the world (most are in US or UK).

FYI..6 days later and they have only responded saying no one has taken my case yet..and they are allocating a priority flag to it..
