Are you optimistic or pessimistic about where humanity will be in the next 200 years?

I am an optimist. I wish I could live long enough to be able to star travel ^_^

I don't think the world as it is will be around for 200 years.

By "world", I mean world system. The current trend of globalization and increasingly deadly technology will hand power to far too few individuals and nations, effectively wiping out balances of power and checks against tyranny.

I doubt the world can continue the way it is heading at this pace for more than 30 years. I am hopeful for a utopia because I am a Christian (yes, flame on, I know), but I think the world will get a whole lot worse in the future before it gets better.

The Singularity will be reached around the middle of this century. After the Singularity it is useless to talk about a dystopia or utopia.

The world is better now then 200 years ago. The 1800's lacked internet, computers, voting rights for women, etc.

The world 200 years ago was better then 400 years ago. The 1400's lacked Democracy, most people were serfs, etc.

The trend for all of history is for things to get better. What makes the next 200 years different then the past couple thousand?
