Hi,
Please help me to chose new HDD for OS.
My friend need a new cheap and fast HDD for his desktop running Windows 7 32Bit.
Since the old HDD showing some error at HDD Tune(http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u307/HolyRipper/500.jpg).
And almost running out of space too.

I'm confused between Seagate 7200.12 500GB and WD Blue 500GB.
Unfortunately SSD beyond budget....:(

His rest of the spec ATM:
Intel E2180@2.0GHz(NO OC) CPU
Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L (rev. 1.0) Motherboard
2x2GB DDR2 RAM
500 GB Seagate 7200.12 HDD SATA
Sapphire HD5670 512MB
Corsair VX450W

Thanks.....

I don't see any error.

Right down at the bottom in Green it says Health Status OK.

The red cross just symbolizes "medical health" just like any other Red Cross logo.

You need to go buy one of those inexpensive (under 100.00) SSDs, install Windows on it, remove Windows from your current drive, and just use it for storage.

This is what I and many others run.....a small, fast OS drive and everything else goes to a seperate storage drive.

Then go for a newer WD Caviar Black.
Hardly any other choice if the stock's that slim around your place.

if you or your friend know someone attending either business related or university research related conference in singapore, mid-market "small ssd" market selection/price very competitive...

iidc/bangalore/marketing may be able to suggest distributor of embedded system/industrial process control - ie: spare parts "small ssd's" offered @ wholesale commercial user price... just a thought

Try to find a seagate momentus xt hd which is a hybrid of ssd and mechanical hd.

I was thinking of getting this drive after seeing it mentioned here on Anandtech, but after doing my own reasearch I found many users where having issues with the drive, so I went with a full SDD Intel design as I wouldn't want any problems with a boot drive.

Just get the Seagate 7200.12. It's a good fast quiet 500GB drive and inexpensive. In most things there is going to be little difference in performance for a desktop user between that and the WD Blue 500GB.

The Samsung F3, Seagate 7200.12 and WD Caviar Black were all pretty close in most benches … techreport. The Seagate 7200.12 actually outran the Samsung F3 in game load times.

... ... fastman and Blastman to the rescue.:D
