no need to. the drivers come on the cd. unless you lost your cd (that's your own stupidity at work. it's common sense to keep all your hardware driver CDs, and make sure you don't lose them), then there's no reason for creative to have their full drivers available.

There is no "need" for Wonder to slice their bread either, but it sure is nice. It seems reasonable for a company which is responsive to its customers' needs to make their drivers available without the CD. Accidents can happen of course. It sure would suck to have an uber-expensive Audigy 4 not operating due to loosing the driver CD for whatever reason.

I have an Audigy2 ZS and I only use the updates from the Creative web site.
I have installed XP from scratch several times and installed the drivers that way with no problems!

Before or after XP auto-installs the full driver set from the MS driver databse?

I only get sound after I install the drivers from the Creative web site.
I never install any drivers from windows update.

Yeah, onboard lan, onboard sound, (not a big issue but still...)

**would it not be more stable if they were installed? overall? chipset and all would be recongized by XP, rather than XP using defaults?

I can think of a bunch of GOOD reasons Creative should keep the full drivers online for us to download.

1. I paid fot this card, and should have access to the drivers 24/7 online, Creative doesn't SELL them, so if I loose the cd (a child destroys it perhaps) I'm screwed. People can argue that the drivers are too big for Creative to just have them online for download. HP offers 600 meg downloads for printers.

2. when reinstalling XP, my CD drive died before I was able to install the creative drivers. Sure this isn't Creative's fault/problem. But EVERY other device I own that needed drivers, with the exception of the SB and this stupid Sony printer, I was able to go to the companies web site and download drivers.

I hate Creative, I hate thier drivers, and I hate their unwillingness to let me download them, after all I did pay 100 bucks for a sound card that's not even worth half that.

Full drivers are on Creative's website. You need to download and install the base driver first and then install the updates on the top of that. Read carefully through the list of drivers and you shouldn't have any trouble finding them.
