pleats make you look fatter and less fashionable.

flat-fronts ftw.

i think a lot of you fuddy-duddies are afraid of looking gay or something.

I have no idea what that article is talking about. I wouldn't know fashion if it punched me in the face and said "Here I am!"

agree with almost everything, except with :

bottom button - sometimes you button both, like say .. when you button your jacket? the "1 button only" is a bad myth. it sure helps if you have a proper fitting suit. also, you might want to button on the bottom and not the top.

socks; i wear true black suits (or grey rarely) with minute, barely visible patterns, white shirts (or rarely black, or pastel) and wear colorful socks. this is the only colour i wear as my tie needs to be sober, stern almost.

socks, as they are underwear, can be any colour. my fav used to be blue and pink, with a pig's face and the letters OINK, and they had this small gizmo that would make a oink sound when i walked. fuckin hilarious. i also had the best suit in town, so, people would stfu.

pleats are ok. as the other site says, single pleats. not multi- pleats. non-pleated trousers look like jeans ... that's something we don't want in a suit.

rubber soles are totally acceptable as long as the shoe itself is well made. huge, sticks-out-by-a-mile rubber basements are out. well-cut rubber soles are in.
the reason why rubber soles (and sneakers/trainer for the same reason) are so maligned is that bouncers would not let you in to dance halls if you had them, because (no, not because they make you look poor) they would leave horrid skid marks on the linoleums of the dance floor, and this goes a long way back.

finallly, crumpled suit backs are a reality, if you are wearing a suit that's slightly wide/loose, then you can bear it being crumpled; if the suit is tight, then don't get it crumpled. generally speaking, a day suit should not get crumpled (light coloured), a night suit (dark) can get crumpled.

oh and while we're at it, if your knot is bigger than your collar, you need a new tie. AND to learn how to do i tup.

I hate pleats, and won't wear them. I don't like the way they puff out when I sit down. I'm probably the only one who notices, but it REALLY bothers me.

This article missed the two biggest things I hate seeing in the office: Black dress shirts, or even worse, black suits. Black is the color for your shoes and belt in a professional setting, not your shirt or suit. A black suit is for a wedding or a funeral. A black dress shirt is for never, get rid of it.

I think I have at least four black dress shirts. So, no.

"If you want to present your most professional self, you don’t want to be caught in rubber soled shoes. They look clunky — like shoes a teenager wears to church.

Shoes with leather soles are more expensive, but they are yet another subtle sign that can convey a higher level of professionalism. If shoes like this are still a bit too pricey for your budget, there are many brands of shoes that have some rubber and some leather on the bottom but have the same slim profile. The only time you’ll see the difference is when you take your shoes off."

Disagree, the Italians have switched to rubber on the high end shoes at this point. The last couple pairs of Ferragamo dress shoes I have bought were rubber soled that looked like leathers. Also Prada and Gucci have been doing rubber for a while now. Living in MN and working in Minneapolis and Chicago, rubber is a must.

I've got to put protective soles on my new pair of Ferragamos. I tried them out for 1 day and the leather sole looked sad afterwards.

Rubber on dress shoes <> Doc Martin style soles 🙂

Leather soles are almost always reserved for formal occasions now (which in my opinion would be an interview you wore a suit too).

I like my Clarks Wave.Hybrids for day to day use as a consulting Network Engineer I need good footing much of the time.

For formal occasions, I have two pairs of Stafford Executive (re-branded Johnston and Murphy) I use in Black and Cordovan.

don’t put black and blue together. You don’t want to be color coordinated with a bruise.

Seriously? I think that one is a stretch. Also pleats look better than flat fronts on everyone.

🙄

Flat front, cuffless pants make guys look like little boys, IMO. They're in the same category as skinny jeans.

not even close IMO.

and to whoever said no black suits except weddings and funerals, GTFO! they are fine for a lot of occasions, just dont wear a black tie with them outside of weddings and funerals 😛

I said it, same person who said black dress shirts are for never. I'm open to being wrong, but show me a pic in a professional context where it works. One of my best suits is jet black, nice sheen to the fabric, pick stitching, double vent and two buttons; single pleated slacks with a european cuff. I've tried it with most shirt colors, bright ties, subtle ties, patterns, whatever, and I still think it looks absolutely wrong in the office.

I'd love to get more wear out of it, so give me some ideas if I'm off base. I'm not an authority on men's fashion, but I know how to dress traditionally because I've worked in more than one conservative (as far as dress goes) profession.

The problem with black suits is that it looks like you only own one for emergency wedding/funeral duty and had to wear it.

Do you sell double glazing or second hand cars? 😛

No, but I also don't have a micro-penis, as that guy in that white pants appears to have.

If your penis is small enough that it fits properly behind flat front pants without creating an awkward bulge, more power to ya. I'll just have to remain unfashionable with my monster wang.

pleats are generally designed to hide one being a little overweight as well as being more forgiving for daily were.

For formal events, flat front trousers are proper.
