Fascinating Article On What It's Like To Be A Cop In Philadelphia

A cop is standing on the corner that the drugs were sold on, so course it looks a lot safer; but all you’re really doing is moving it. That’s why Camden jumped off, because they just moved the operation. You’ll never stop it, and you just have to hope to god that someone who isn’t a piece of shit doesn’t get killed.

“The shit you see in the movies is nothing close to what really happens.”

I got kicked in the face, I was involved in a fight outside of a bar, and a girl booted me right in the face and split it open. In court the judge asks me if I’ll accept an apology from the defendant. I said, “In lieu of what?” Judge says, “She has a drug addiction and has three kids at home.” I said, “Your honor, number one – I will not accept an apology; and number two – you already made up your mind.” He said, “That’s right, I did.” And she got off. And that’s why people act the way they do. They see their friends get off for shooting 4 people, so why the fuck not? They think, “Dude looks at me wrong I’m going to put one in his face.”

God Bless those men and women, I don't think I could put up with it day in and day out.

Every idiot cop in the world thinks judges are too soft.

Increasing sentences does absolutly nothing to reduce crime.

That is statistically impossible.

Longer sentences = less repeat offenders simply because the offenders are locked up in jail.

Give everyone 3 months in jail and fine then $10k for a first time DUI and that crap will stop in a hurry.

BTW, it was a great article and this is coming from someone who is very "big brother."

you have no idea on corrections do you?

"It’s the judges. They just let people out."

Guy is bitching that people don't get longer sentances.

Read it again.

Err, no, it's not. Criminals arn't thinking of the consiquences when they commit crimes.

I don't see him asking for stiffer sentencing - I see his issue being the fact that, quite often, people are deemed not guilty by a judge and see no consequences at all.

Would you not be a bit upset if someone kicked you in the face and then was found not guilty because she was a single mom with a drug habit?

She was found guilty, her sentance was to appologize.

You think judges don't think about this stuff? They have to take everything into consideration. What affect will it have on the children etc etc.

So in your mind if someone has kids it's ok for them to kick someone in the face and have no repercussions?

Do you think the judge would issue the same sentence if the judge was the one that was kicked in the face?

Just because you have special circumstances does not mean you can do whatever you want without consequences. Being told to apologize is hardly a consequence.

I wasn't in the court, I didn't hear all the details.

The judge was, and he made a decision based on all the facts.

Idiots need to stop thinking they know more than the judge who's ACTUALLY THERE.

Idiots also need to stop thinking that the judicial system is perfect. The judge was not ACTUALLY THERE at the crime scene. The victim was.

Good job not answering the question, though.

Yeah, lets let the victims sentence criminals...

Way to miss the point.

You do realize that you were just criticizing people for having opinions on something for which they were not present...yet that's exactly what the judge did in this case?

The whole business of law enforcement is bad - as in unpleasant - business; the cops are spat on demonized by the public, and if they have a necessary need to be somewhere it only means bad things are going down.

Conversely, the public can and will get abused by the corrupt and the overzealous in the force.

The only good outcome is if . . . nothing happens. If a police bust/raid of some sort happens well, the criminals get arrested and sent to jail. If your local police officer is a hard-working honest cop, he doesn't bother anyone that doesn't need it.

What a world we live in, eh?
