This is GREAT and should be of interest here. This link should work for 14 days. If you hit this link after August 19, it probably will not work:

I learned a bunch of stuff I didn't know. The reader comments are well worth reading too.

Now you should write one about roller skating.
It's misunderstood. But a major difference is that most people get on commercial flights and few lace up a pair of roller skates, at least once they are full grown. I've run into quite a few people who tell me they used to skate and have a notion to do it again, but AFAIK they never do.

The book I have thought I could write is how to live well without winning the lottery, i.e. without a surfeit of money. To me it seems that we have been perpetually in a place where this has become more and more necessary. 9+% inflation lately means, again, even more so. I know how to streeeeeeetch a dollar. :)

BTW.... I do trust the NYT to be pretty accurate in terms of what they report but I also make an effort not to assist anyone trying to twist peoples arms into paying them by linking their stories.

Dude, who's twisting arms? No paywall there for the time being. They say it's a share and I think it works for 14 days.

Not you lol.... the NYT. :D

I HATE clicking on a "story" with an interesting headline on a news aggregator only to find out I can't actually read it without "signing up".

And actually they bother me a lot less then most since the majority of their stories do have some value.

@Captante: Alright, well, demystify me. I don't know what your experience is because I am a subscriber. When you click on the link in the OP, are you besieged by NY Times to sign up or something? Please let me know. If so, I'll stop linking those 14 day shares ...it says I can do that 10x/month, but if people are hassled I won't do it anymore.

It does show a couple nag-ads but they're a minor annoyance.... the bummer part will be for the poor guy who clicks it on day-15!

I was referring more to say an article headline I would see in something like Google News directly from the NYT locking me out.

I used to fly a lot, 100% business travel... it sucked... but I was being paid. Last time was in late August 2000.

And that is before flying turned into a shitshow. Passengers were still assholes, just not raging self-entitled assholes with a Karen hairdo. Weather still caused delays, cancelations, etc., luggage still got delayed/lost, but nothing compared to flying today.

Last time I renewed my driver's license, I didn't jump through the hoops to get a "real ID" (The gold star on my license) and they said you won't be able to get on a plane... to which I replied, that sounds like a win.
