how do you "intentionally" pass gas?

can you fart on demand?

Yes, but it's always a gamble.

So, in other words you can shit your pants on demand and occasionally will fart in the process.

Can't everyone?

In Bible class (Christian school.. this was the class where everyone goofed off), some of the guys would try to time their farts simultaneously.. or at least in rapid succession..

It was hilarious.. especially from different corners of the room..

I can't generate gas on demand, but I can choose when to release it.

you can chose when NOT to release it.

In other words you can "intentionally" withhold releasing gas.
Unless you are an Olestra freak, you can do both. The anal sphincter is a marvelous muscle than can open and shut on demand.

Are you a MD? It seems like whenever doctors get on the topic of the sphincter they get all excited because it's such an "amazing muscle".

If I can choose when NOT to release it, that implies that I have something to release. I don't know about you, but when I have something something to release, I can choose to release it. I can also choose to hold it in. My wife has learned to recognize when I'm choosing to release it, so I have to be sneakier now.

my point was and still is that you have no control over the production of intestinal gas, Yes you can hold it in and force it out.
but you cannot intentionally produce the gas necessary to release a fart.

Correct, that's what I said initially:

"I can't generate gas on demand, but I can choose when to release it."

I had a student who intentionally disrupted class that way. Didn't try to conceal it at all, etc. Basically, acted like an 8 year old. It wasn't the fart itself that was disruptive, but his mannerism during the act. Fortunately, I had the good sense not to give him a detention for it - I knew it'd sound exactly like you guys think this thread sounds - that the school over-reacted. So, I talked to the nurse. The next day when he disrupted the class that way for at least the 20th day in a row, I told him,

"I spoke to the nurse about your flatulence problem. She thinks that if it continues, it may be a symptom of a serious gastro-intestinal problem. She told me that if your problem continues, I am to inform her, and she will see to it that you're referred to an gastro-intestinal specialist. <the kid was still laughing at this point.> You know what that means, don't you? That means 'bend over' and whooooooooooooop, right up the rear end he's going to stick a big long camera on a cable to take a peak around at your insides. WHOOOOOP! Right up the rear end. " "You're joking, aren't you." "You really want to see if I'm bluffing on this one? Go for it." Never had a problem again.

lol nice...

I agree though, this topic is not about farting. It's about being disruptive and disrespectful. This kid obviously was seeking attention and will do so using any method of disruption. I'm sure it's a common issue. Probably a parent teacher discussion was in order after detention didn't fix it.

You, sir, are a genius.
