Farmer's are screwing me and taking my Taco.

I got rear-ended hard. They made up a bogus assessment too, even said my Taco was soiled.

Anyway my 2002 Tacoma 4x4 TRD is worth about $7500 in this market and they say it's $5100. Small claims court here I come. What a pain in the ass.

If you think it is worth more than what they offered, challenge their offer directly first. If they don't agree, then you can try small claims court, but if you take it to court you'll need to be able to show documentation that it is actually worth the amount you are claiming.

And showing ads online is not documentation. At minimum you would need documentation from the buyers or sellers of actual transactions.

Utah law lists a number of way to show value. I'm working on it. I'm still negotiating with a Farmer in Kansas. I don't think I can get more out of him, but at least he has stopped intimidating me to sign. They have done so many things that I believe are against state law. Their assessment also said it had bald tires and the tires are 7000 miles old with a 60000 mile warranty, 15/32. They took that out after I showed them the receipt. That added less the $200 to their price for $800 of rubber. The other made up issues are the $2500 they are stealing from me. I should have detailed it before getting in the accident. I did not know I was selling it that day. Lesson learned. I get a good down payment for a truck just like mine!

The last offer is $5400, and I think it's final. No Vaseline.

Your not dealing with an insurance company? How long ago was this? I'd call a lawyer (pay only if you win guys) and make sure you don't have soft tissue damage.

OP, that sucks. So what happened? You're dealing with an agent in a different state? Did you move, or are you dealing with the other person's insurance?

Pretty sure he's talking about Farmers Insurance, hence why he is capitalizing it.

But what I gather is he's either dealing with the opposing side's insurance company (and the situation happened in another state, or maybe the people were from a different state and so he's dealing with their local agent) or he's dealing with his maybe previous agent in a different state from the one he's currently located in.

That's not what I've read. My sister was offered something like $2500 for her 2wd Tacoma after someone hit it. She basically went WTF to the insurance company and they promptly changed their mind, valued it far higher, and then repaired it.

Tacomas hold value ridiculously well. I have a friend who's shopping for a first gen 4x4 and he's not finding anything worth buying under $8-9k.

That was in regards to if he took them to court 🙂
Ahh. Yeah, I'd try hard to get a better offer before that stage.

Depending on the buyback number, it might be worth buying it back and selling the major components to someone doing a 4x4 conversion. The rear e-locker assembly, wiring, and ECU is probably worth $600 alone.

I'm going to get another adjuster to look at it.

This happened in Utah, the guy that hit me only lives a few miles from me. I think Farmer's is based in Kansas. I called the guy that hit me and told him I might sue him, I wasn't angry with him and Farmer's would still have to pay anyway. He is a nice guy who just messed up.

It's not in as bad of shape as I made it out to be. The thread was meant to be a joke. I need a laugh. It still runs and I have it road worthy again. I went off roading today and detailed it when I got home. I'm in a position that I don't want their money, about $3000 to keep a salvage title. If my assessor says their being legit I'll buy it back.

A Silverado right-reared me in to a newer Camry. The Camry had a very large dent in the trunk shaped like the front of my truck but my front only got a tare in the valance. My back bumper twisted up into the bed. The bed on the out side only got a few dings but the lower corner moved in about 3/8 to just overlap the mangled tailgate and the tail light was broke. I have a new bumper on it now along with a tail light. I had to fix it to get to work. The tools that need don't fit in a retail car and a truck was days out at Farmer's rental place. I don't want a rental anyway. I want my truck.

The shop had just under $6000 to repair it. 75% value is a total here.

I'm tinkling of going and getting a Colorado diesel. I just don't want the debt. ZR2 would be nice.

Even if I could get $7500 I'd still have to buy it back. I can get over $5400 out if it with a salvage title. If I can get a new tailgate to fit it will look fixed. There are real issues with the bed though. They wanted to replace the sill and the floor, re-spray the bed liner and repaint. Just the badging is hundreds of dollars. When I get the tailgate I will just re-use the old stuff after I plastikote them.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Crap, I just noticed their crack head adjuster did not select my options right in his CCC. SR5, TRD, cruise, CD, Alloy wheels, E-locker and even anti-lock breaks (wtf?) Then there is Bluetooth too. Maybe this is why I feel so violated. Blind man did this. First my new tires were bald, now I final find this. My vision is getting bad. Funny thing is the body shop list had all the right badging. They knew and just want to screw me over the '15 Camry my Taco pounded. It cost them big. It was so soft. If my adjuster lowers the condition hit this may not be a total. In my fist call bozo in Kansas broke the law and threatened me he would close the claim to intimidate me to sign quickly. Crooks all of them.

Just noticed they missed spay-in bed liner. $400 in the estimate.

At this point I know for certain Farmer's auto insurance is acting in bad faith to the man that got me in the rear. I hope United (my insurer) never does that to me. I pay them for a reason. I don't want this to happen to anyone--even bozo in Kansas.

He simply will not put all the right info in the CCC report. If he adds the big ones (SR5, TRd) he losses over $2000. But the wheels and seats are still also incorect.

This is what a stiff Silverado in the rear does. The bed is a lot worse than it appears. The whole floor got moved. That is one tough ass truck!
That bumper looked perfect before. Now I have some flimsy ebay POS on it. I need one that has Toyota written on it again.

FWIW, I'm glad I took the grunt of the blow of that Silverado and not the nice pregnant lady in that black Camry. I'm very sorry I even did hit her.

This changed me. I want full coverage on any car I drive. I'll drive as safe as I can to avoid other peoples mistakes. I'll never trust Farmer's Insurance with anything of mine.

The still unfolding non-embellished real story is over at Tacoma World.

Yeah the sad truth is the insurance companies are out to screw you as much as possible, its literally their jobs to pay out as little as possible. This is why i always carry full coverage, extra liability(10 mil) and have a dashcam.

It's all about calculated risk. I'd bet 90% of the people on the road have no idea how much their car is worth. Nine times out of ten they just sign. First Gen Tacomas are worth a lot around here. When the numbers are entered correct the MVR should be $8000-$8500. They just stonewall me on that. I'll have my own soon and see if that helps. They have changed theirs over 10 times now and still are missing the big money ones. Every change is admitting an error.

If you had full coverage on the truck, file a claim with your insurance company. You can settle with them, then they will send a bill to Farmer's.

I have a buddy in AZ shopping for a first gen Taco and he's willing to pay $9500+ for a clean 1st gen (north of 150k miles). I would be fighting them tooth and nail.

Yeah, my FIL sold a first gen Taco last year in Oklahoma for 10.5K, it was lite on the miles (~120K-ish), but had some hail damage. I'd say otherwise it was in average condition.

Farmer's did not give me the original assessment. That was done on 4/7. That guy know what my truck was. He made the body work estimate. My claim was sent over to the totally lost specialist in Kansas on the 21st. The change log on the new CCC starts that day and has many, many changes even before I started bargaining with them. It looks like they own the assessment and can do anything they please with it. It's my burden to prove the reality. This guy has broken just about every law in the Utah book. They don't care. They will just payout before it goes to a judge, and make sure it a royal PIA to get it there. Farmers will never get a Judgment against them anyway because on the 21th this became a claim with Mid-Century. I doubt they will pay out even when I have an unbiased MVR in front of them.

If you have a 2002 Tacoma listed in the vehicle info of CCC one software with steel wheels you have a five lug 2002 Toyota Tacoma, and it's worth thousands less. Farmer's Insurance knows this. I need that changed in my report.

...they're doing value checks for a mini-Taco? That would definitely explain the price discrepancy!

It really sucks when you have to battle insurance companies just to get fair treatment. I am a believer in handing anything off to my insurance company and letting them battle it out with the other, so much easier.

They say they cut me a check for nearly $4300. No title BS mentioned. I guess it's just a payment for their abuse of my Taco. Sign or sue?
Farmer's said:
We have issued a check in the amount of $ 4,276.49...for damages to your property.
