Wow... and wasnt there an article that the average person in India makes a lot of money?
Across the country in desperate pockets like this one, 17,107 farmers committed suicide in 2003, the most recent year for which government figures are available. Anecdotal reports suggest that the high rates are continuing.

The United Kingdom I live in is supposedly a socialist system too, but it's still a capitalist nation. In this country those farmers would've been given a small amount of money per week to make sure they can get by until they find a better source of income.Originally posted by: JS80
India has a socialist system...
And people say Corporations are evil. Huge Corporate farm companies should be allowed to purchase the farmland so idiot farmers don't have to commit suicide

i'm sorry, if you're a farmer today in a modern or emerging market, you're either short-sighted or an idiot.

What the hell are you talking about? Most of India is still considered a third world country. The parts of the country that are growing economically rapidly, have only been doing so since early 90's. 60% of its labor force is in agriculture. You're being short-sighted just by making that comment.![]()
Are you saying that farmers don't make any money? I guess all the farmers I ever met must've stolen those countryside stables and Land Rovers from more fortunate city folks.Originally posted by: JS80

I don't know what you have against farmers, but I bet I know more than a few who are more well-off than you are.
