probably because your graphics card couldn't take it, overheated, or ran into a problem and caused a force reboot on your computer.

did you play with all Effects on Low? or did you try to crank them up to High/Very High..? if u did the latter, thats probably why u have that problem.

I had the ATI 9200 before (came with the computer), and it could barely play farcry . and only at low detail settings. if i tried medium, ...the end.

I have had alot of problems with FarCry I ended up RMAing my 9800 Pro due to artifacting at Default speeds with the settings turned up. I've still had issues with my temp 9100. I'm going to wait till I get my 9800 Pro back and see what happens it is a VERY demanding game.

Before I got my X800 Pro,

I purchased a 9800 Pro, and tried out Farcry. the game is unplayable when the settings are turned up to Very High. You really have to mess with the settings to find the sweet spot and see where the game is functional. And even though the game "plays" at Very hgih settings on a 9800 Pro, the framerate was just soo choppy, it made me nautious. and could barely play 10 minutes. so i got rid of the 9800Pro, and got the x800 Pro.

Now, the game plays silky smooth with everything turned up, and i dont get those nautious feelings.

1. What's your CPU, MB, and sound card?
2. When exactly does the system reboot?
3. Do you have DirectX 9 installed?
4. Do you experience similar problems in any other games?
5. What's the deal with your name, considering you're using a 9200? :)

I'm able to play the game on my P4 rig (see Gamma Rig) with my 9500 Pro, average 60 frames per second with all the settings on very high. No slowdown or choppiness whatsoever.

60 fps on max settings....but I bet you have AA set to none and AF set to 1. If not, oops. What resolution? I'm at 1024x768 with the settings maxed and low AA enabled in the game, and I get a good 50fps and everything looks beautiful on my 9700 pro. I'm sure a 9800 pro wouldn't be that unplayable, unless you were trying to play the game at 1600x1200 or so.

Due to the monitor I use I play at it's native resolution of 1600x1024. With the settings on High and Low AA I can play the game but it is choppy every once and a while. I recommend 1024x768 if you want all the eye candy and don't want to spend 400+ on a new card.

I had a similar problem due to heat a couple weeks back.

Fixed via new heatsink for cpu and a couple more case fans.

I've been playing FC at 1024x768 with a 9700Pro and a 9500Pro without a problem. My eyes aren't so good any more either. If a 9800Pro won't do it, you're getting greedy. Sounds like a good excuse to buy a new video card. :)

Do you have the latest BIOS and chipset drivers for your system?
Any overclocks?
Do you have the latest Catalyst 4.6?
