I can not respect the opinion of anybody who rates that crapfest tech demo higher than HL2.
I cannot respect the opinion of anybody who rates that crapfest physics demo (HL2) higher than that crapfest tech demo (Doom3).

Although HL2 will win by sheer mainstream popularity, I choose FC.

early release date + island environment + awesome weapons + monkey trigens > *

Hmmm, difficult to say. Graphics wise, Far Cry no doubt in my mind on that. Seriously, I doubt HL:Source could even render 1/2 the outdoors that CryEngine can do. Even that is probably too much for the Source Engine

HL2 was really lame as far as story goes. Physics were cool, except that the game didn't give you enough ammo so you had to rely on that physics gun, which I hated.

I guess I believe HL2 was operhyped in every possible way and IMO the only good thing that came from it was CS: Source.

Far Cry was released earlier and the whole hacker thing that Valve claimed is just a cover for slow programming. When the source was leaked, people found out how they lied about not scripting anything. Seriously, you are willing to trust a developer that lies to you? Not me... Valve has been found shady in MANY areas.

As for Far Cry, they were raided by the police on false charges... They still released their product on time. The guys at CryTek are simply some of the best minds in programming today.

Edit ** Steam Sucks, I second what BFG10K wrote on that...

FC's story - sure run from a nuclear bomb blast and get tossed out of a hi-flying helicopter - - plot, voice acting and cutscenes are so damn amateurish it ruins the game's mood . . . otoh, the AI, outdoor gfx and gameplay are outstanding. BUT lack of [proper] 'anytime save' is irritating and the game is damn hard [and still a little bit buggy] . . .

so, my vote goes to HL2 by default.

However, Chronicles of Riddick beats them both - it's only fault is that it is too short.

I haven't played Doom 3 yet, but I plan to try it soon. I don't like Half-Life 2 because of 1) the excessive gore and ultra-realistic physics that make the gore make me more quesy and 2) I don't like the cliched PC shooter in which you kill bloody monster crazy biohazard things.

I like FarCry because I get to shoot people and because I like the happy outside colors and pretty environments.

Could anyone please tell me if FarCry eventually gets to a point where I would have to kill bionic crazy monster things?

Also, is Doom 3 like Half-Life 2 in that it has lots of gore and blood-thirsty crazy creatures and monsters that you have to kill?

Thank you very much!

I have no idea how any of you can stand the terrible story and acting....I had to play it without sound most of the time, too much cheese at once is no good.

DL the demo for D3 . . . it will answer all your questions about it [it is MUCH more gory than HL2 .. . after all, you're in Hell].

And yes, you get to get killed by bionic crazy monster things in FC. :p

you're welcome

Anytime saves are nice, but then HL2 had that wee little loading issue....

My vote goes to Far Cry over HL2, as I enjoyed the expansive environments, graphics, and overall gameplay more. Both had weak storylines (HL2's is a joke intentionally sitting in obscurity and a laughable x-files sort of plot, Far Cry's might as well have been nonexistent). The gravity gun, while cool, often came across as more of an 'oh wow, awesome tech demo!' sort of thing rather than a well thought out gameplay element (the puzzles you had to use it to solve are a prime example). I give the developers of Far Cry some credit for coming out with the game earlier than the other 2 big FPSers of that year, and without feeling the need to hype the hell out of their product. I'm still a bit sore at Valve for the whole fiasco that they created by announcing a launch date that was clearly an impossibility to meet.

So, about FarCry again: does it get as gory as Doom 3 or Half-Life 2, at least with the crazy bionic monster things?

Thanks ;)

EDIT: Oh, and it seems like I can't download the Doom 3 demo since I'm only 16 ;)

That's kinda funny, just lie about it.

About FarCry, I don't think it gets freaky gory. Doom3 has disgusting growing things on the walls and a lot of blood and just gross organic things that you kill. HL2 has some bloody scenes with fire, and freaky organic things, but nowhere as close as Doom3 and it only lasts for one level. FarCry is.. I wouldn't say gross, but definitely freaky & hard. It's scary because you don't want to get killed. And the monsters look and are very menacing, but I don't think it has the same type of gore as either HL2 or Doom3. FarCry is awsome, the game puts you in very suspensful situations to the poin where you don't know if you are gonna survive or not, gives me a rush. Just don't play on anything harder than Medium and you should be fine. And there is an option for AI somewhere, make it so that the AI is easier. That's probably better. I didn't do that cause I was stupid and it was a bit frustrating.

Gameplay goes to Farcry. The huge maps are awesome, giving you room to explore and roam, and I like fighting the mercs in such an environment. I hate the mutated guys though.

Graphics go to HL2. Best textures and physics, and it actually look realistic. Plus it support a wide range of hardware too. ***cough BF2 cough ***
