FarCry on a 9800Pro!!!

Hi

Please don't suggest of upgrading and all, out of curiosity I am asking:

Can this system run Far Cry at 1024x768 High 8x AF no AA SM 2.0?

Radeon 9700Pro
512MB RAM
Intel 2.4 non HT

If this can't, then can this run it:

Radeon 9800Pro
768MB RAM
Intel 2.6HT

Can both of them run it, or can neither?

If you want the game to run well that is.

Not sure. I played it on a 9800Pro at the resolution(IIRC), but didn't try AF. 512mb of ram will likely be an issue, 768 should be okish.

I played it on a 9600XT.
Everything set to Medium. 800x600 with no AA/AF was pretty smooth.
A 9800Pro should easily bump it up to 1024x768 with a few options set to high. I'm betting you can't set them all at high.

yep, it should run fine, I ran Farcry on a AXP 3200+ with a 9700pro with no problems what so ever, but I didn't use any of the AA/AF settings, I just ran at high quality 1024x768 and it worked a treat.

Yep. I originally ran FC with an AXP 3200 768MB and R9700P just fine @ 1152x864 with moxed medium-high settings. No problems at all.

Actually I wanted to know for that would would the most accurate possible estimate for Crysis as well. From what I can tell you at the moment that if a 2.4 GHz + 9700Pro could play FarCry at 1024x768 all High with no AA no AF then there is a very good chance of single core A64 + 1900XTs doing 1024x768 High or nearly max with 8x or even 16x AF.

😕 wtf?

I ran it OK at 1024x768 on medium/high with a 2.6 P4 HT, 512 MB DDR400 and 5900Ultra which is prettymuch equivalent to what your second system is like. No AF or AA or anything special like that.

He means good frames but with that "lagging" that you get in single player applications. 😉

Seriously akshayt, you can't go around comparing two different cards as introductory platforms to two different games especially since one of the games is rumored to be a DX9/DX10 hybrid.

I pretty much maxed far cry out at 1024x768 and it ran great. Im talking around 50FPS. Although i did back off on some of the shader effects and turned shadows down to blobs.

I can run FarCry on full with AA at 1024x768 with my rig

my friend with 3500+ 512mb ddr400 + 9800PRO was running it high without AA same reso

Yup, my 9700 pro could handle that rez, but I really had to turn down the settings into medium-low territory.

it ran very smooth on my old AXP + 9700pro, I never had any stutter what so ever...it ran very smooth...but i never did try it with any AF/AA setting enabled

I am assuming that you are meaning High or med to High unless otherwise stated. It is impossible to run the game at 1600x1200 at High settings.

I would imagine that card can play it... the game came out around the same time when the ATI 9800 was a "newish" card.

i call 25 fps smooth.
hell i call 15 fps smooth (in oblivion only).
but then agian i have never experianced the 200+ fps phenomenon so i can't say.

Your gonna get 25 - 60 fps @ 1024 x 768 at high settings. I had a athlon xp 2600+ and these are the numbers i achived. If you have a athlon 64 then expect the avarage frame rate to increase.

ridiculous leap . . . your IF does NOT lead to THEN 😛

current mid-range rigs rigs ran the just-released FC very BADLY as it was NOT patched or optimized . . . six months later it was VERY PLAYABLE on a 9700p . . . even the 9600xt's could 'manage' it.

look at the benchmarks of that time 😉

your entire premise is flawed

[as usual]
