Far Cry only came out on PC, so wrong forum. Far Cry Instincts was a different game. And I liked Far Cry more than HL2 also.

By the time Halo made it to the PC, it was so far outdated it was ridiculous.

It's hard for me to compare. Both Far Cry and Half Life 2 are very different from each other. I'd say farcry was better for weaponry and openness, but I'd say HL2 for graphics, gameplay, and story.

This belongs in PC gaming.

Far Cry was funner than HL2 until the Trigen or whatever starting taking over. Could have been better than HL2, but HL2 provided a more solid experience overall.

Far Cry was a terrible excuse for a FPS. I played it once with my old roommate and we traded it in the next day. (We got it with our 360 from a friend) Total, absolute garbage.

They were pc games that were transitioned to consoles. I would say this thread goes in the pc gaming forum. (not to say I wouldn't agree that a general gaming forum would fix this issue right up.)

HL1>HL2>HL2 episodes>Farcry

All great games, but Hl1 (and Blue Shift/Opposing Force) were such a great series.

All you have to do is look at the fact they still were SELLING the HL stuff way after it's been released (HL1 5 disc pack was out for a solid 5 years, and that was 3-4 after HL1 came out), where as Farcry was only out for a year or 18 months after release. To me that alone shows that overall HL>Farcry.

i played it in 2004 and hated it.
went back in 2007 and it really blew my mind.

Max Payne's were good, DE1 was good (well one of the best ever), but Halo? I don't think so. I played the MP of that game to death and loved it, but I'm not deluded into thinking it was better than any of the other games listed here.

I agree. I played through Farcry on every difficulty level (save for the easiest). HL2 I got tired of before I even got halfway through it.

However, I think Crysis (the true FarCry 2) is much better than HL3 (basically the episodes) and Far Cry 2 looks like it might be a lot better than HL2 Episode 3.

Yes, Far Cry was far superior than HL2 (or a lot of other games, for that matter). The story sucked but it had excellent gameplay and combat, and that's what ultimately makes a game long lasting for me. It has also aged well and still looks remarkably good on modern systems, more like a 2006 or 2007 game than a 2004 one. I'm planning to replay it at some point.

Yeah but Episode 1, 2 & 3 are the HL3 storyline, Gabe Newell was once quoted saying he regrets naming them Half Life "2" Episode 1 and that EP 1, 2 and 3 are basically HL3.

There will probably still be an HL3 however.
