The incredible tropical-paradise visuals we were treated to in trailers of FarCry 3 called for some serious hardware muscle. The studio released minimum, recommended, and high-performance system requirements lists for the upcoming AAA title. The lists are quite accommodating of today's mid-range hardware, but can be quite demanding of PCs more than 2 years old. It was also announced that the game will implement a revised Uplay DRM scheme that needs a one-time activation, and doesn't require you to stay logged-in when playing the single-player campaign.

The system requirements lists follow.
Minimum System Requirements

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 or AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+ dual-core
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX or ATI Radeon HD 2900 512 MB with DirectX 9.0c
Memory: 4 GB

Recommended System Requirements

Processor: Intel Core i3-530 or AMD Phenom II X2 565 or equivalent quad-core
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 or AMD Radeon HD 5770 or equivalent 1 GB DirectX 11 graphics
Memory: 4 GB

High-Performance System Requirements

Processor: Intel Core i7-2600K or AMD FX-4150 or equivalent quad-core
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon HD 7970 or equivalent DirectX 11 graphics
Memory: 8 GB

Yeah i'm looking forward to that game as it looks like tons of colorful fun. Looks like most people can run it pretty good.

Yeah they made a sequel in name only and ticked me off bad. And they much up their other franchises too.

That's because a lot of fans hated the sci-fi elements of the first far cry and thought it would be better to rehash it with another plot.

Still no excuse for the second one. It was ok, but a tad boring. Needs more RPG elements, or a better reward system. Maybe add some character progression skill sets.

No no no no. Keep your RPG out of my FPS.

If I really want to play an FPS-RPG, then I'll play Borderlands (since that game pulls it off fairly well). But I'd prefer Far Cry remain a shooter at heart. id screwed up RAGE by taking a shooter (which they're already good at making), and then hamfisting sloppy RPG elements into it, which turned it into a half-assed bastard child of Borderlands and Fallout 3. I don't want the same thing to happen to Far Cry.

Not a tad, it was just boring. You did one type of mission you did them all.

If you go the weapons shop at the bottom left of the map and take a mission, the mission would be at the top right. Throw some IEDs down, wait behind a rock or bush and blow the vehicle sky high. Even if you mess up and don't get the truck on the first try, you can throw some more on the ground and wait, because you know it would make the rounds and come back. Ridiculous.

Can't agree with you more. I hope Far Cry 3 returns to its roots.

How do they even get this game to run on an xbox or ps3 when the minimum system requirements for this game destroy those consoles?

Lower resolution, smaller field of view, 30fps framerate cap, lower model quality and texture size, and generally optimizing for a single, universal system configuration.

As a fan of the single-player FPS campaign, I have to admit that I'm really looking forward to this game.

Because essentially, those consoles are semi-equivalent to that minimum system spec when optimization is taken into account (though an 8800GTX still destroys either console). Makes sorta-sense, but I bet people with 512 MB 9600GTs and Radeon 4670s will probably have no problem playing the game at minimum settings at 720p. Developers tend to overestimate graphics requirements but what they list there makes sense considering the game is DX10+ only. The HD 2900 is the only one from it's series to have the muscle, though for the Nvidia side of things, I'm surprised they don't say 8800GTS 640 instead, but not too many people still have them I would think. Perhaps they think those with 320 MB models might confuzzle themselves, so hence the GTS 640 MB wasn't listed, but still that's just silly.

So yeah, I'm expecting quite a few surprised people running the game on Radeon 6450s and Geforce 620s and other currently low end GPUs.

NO! NO! NO! A thousand times NO!

FPS's bred with RPG's come out bastards! :p

It depends how it's bred. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. nailed it, IMO. If you're going to breed in RPG elements successfully, you should NEVER let it detriment the FPS mechanics. This is one reason why I couldn't stand Fallout 3.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s blend included buying enhancements and upgrades to armor and weaponry (in a very realistic manner), and adding the use of artifacts to help negate the effects of radioactivity, shock, and fire. There was no leveling system that actually effected things like health or weapon accuracy.

I'll take games like that all day long.

EXACTLY...
If there's a huge difference in gfx between the 3 systems with drastically improved graphics on high end PC's ...ONLY then do these Recommended & High system requirements make sense.
Good that they are going back to the island setting.
Hope it's just as long and facinating as the original.

I stand corrected. I loved the first two STALKER games but just couldnt get into Clear Sky, no matter how much I tried. Still havent finished that game and probably never will.

Graphics look awesome. Never played Farcry 1 or 2, but I might pick this up when it's out.

Loved FC1 and thought FC2 was okay. I hope FC3 wow everyone again but as per usual I'll wait till release and see what the reviews say before deciding to buy or not. I wont even begin to get into the whole Ubisoft debate. That poor horse has been beaten to a bloody pulp.
