I prefer this system of checkpoints/autosaves. It adds some interest to the game for me.
The thing is that I always play my FPS at the hardest level, and this in combination with the autosaves is tough.
But I like it this way.
I really Do understand that (mostly) the younger gamers like a tougher challenge than (us) old(er) gamers.

Since I have been young for a very (very) long time, I have become really IMpatient (and usually busy with something else - usually work-related), ALL I WANT is the OPTION to save ANYtime; it shouldn't be TOO difficult for a programmer to have BOTH checkpoints AND anytime saves available.

I really AM looking forward to UPgrading to NV40 so I can actually ENjoy some of the newest titles . . . next month, eh?

🙂

Patience is a virtue my friend

And this is coming from the" young gamer " whose first pc was 8088 9.54Mhz 512kb ram and a hercules card playin "Defender of the crown", "Lakers vs Celtics" and all Sierra adventures. 😉 (not to mention my prior spectrum experiences)

I hope you are not so fast in all thingz... 😀

Patience is ONE of MANY virtues. 😛
(I have sufficient patience dealing with people, not pixels)

"Fast" is not all bad.

(still no tickets for driving the last 15 years)

And MY FIRST PC was an Atari 800 (I don't remember "anytime saves" back then) with all my games on the big floppys . . . 🙂

I say, 2 each his own . . . a game programmer can easily accomodate BOTH of us (and i guess that is why FC is releasing a patch)

. . . Still PATIENTLY waiting for NV40 . . .

Don't know where this is comin from. Anyway I see some patience here with pixels or am I wrong? 😀

And the reason I mentioned NV40 is because i wont get much gaming detail with Far Cry from my current rig (P4@3.4Ghz/Abit IC7/DC-PC3500) because I still have a Radeon 8500 (the demo is SLOW) and I wasn't THAT impressed with a 9800Pro running it . . . so (to make a long story shorter), I am still patiently (uh huh) waiting for BOTH videocard and patch b4 I get 'em both.

Of course, by then, Far Cry may be in the bargain bin . . .

Actually there comes a time when it IS really 2 late. 😉

But thanks for the
(i made it a bud light)

😀

A save system like that sucks for sure. You can quicksave with the console but it doesn't correctly save the enemy AI.

I'm waiting for the next patch - which will fix the quicksave issues - until I get the game.

But, in FC, when you reload from your last checpoint, it ain't the same. Bad guys do things differently.

And you can approach things entirely differently yourself too. One area I was making good headway in to a Merc base had cleared out about half a dozen of them and was under cover- a place I would have quick saved it and then was promptly wasted by a rocket from a tower. When the auto save reloaded I headed around the hill(took a while to walk around) next to the base and came up from behind quietly taking out the rear guard and taking down the guys on the tower and then proceeded to finish off the rest of the Mercs in a straight up fire fight. It has gotten so now if I die, instead of retrying what I had done before and just try to do it better I look for an alternate route entirely- and I almost always find one. I think quick save would have me just trying to plow my way through the game in a fashion a lot more linear then what this game needs to be. At this point, even if they do enable QuickSave I won't be using it for my subsequent plays through the game.

The problem is that the game doesn't currently give you a choice. If you like check-point only then it works well but if you don't like it you're still forced into playing that style.

I canunderstand that. It's pretty annoying to keep getting killed by those gay trigen in one swipe.

hehe, yup! over and over over and over over and over over and over over and over again 🙂

I probably should have went down one more selection on the skill level as I am starting to get really P.O.d at this game at times. Since its like enter a room

and try to kill everyone and everything just so I can go into the very next room and do the same thing once more while not having to much health around.

Although at this point in the game at least when I kill the soldiers some of them are kind enough to leave me their armour 😀

Oops, I guess I should have also said that I am not a noob at FPS, and I do consider myself a very good FPS player as I never use cheats or things like that BUT I do in this game ust the "\save_x" code and trust me I can't stand doing that but if I didn't use that I would have blown my computer away with a double barrel shotgun by now ....................................... just j/k of course but this game does get annoying!!

Come on, I know you have enough skill to not sweat the no quick save feature.

Evidently not, hehe, perhaps you can give me some advice on how to remain alive and healthy after entering a heavy combat area just to enter the next room and do it again.

Remember its not the outside areas that are crazy its the indoor areas with the frigg'n monsters 🙂

You gotta use the "intelligent AI" to your advantage. In many other FPSs, you go into a room and there's bad guys that stand there (maybe use cover) and shoot at you. In this game, the bad guys (mercs and monsters) come after you... whereever you may go.

Backtrack to a choke point and cut them down one-by-one as they come through, or use a grenade/rocket if they're grouped up (this is hard to do outdoors as the mercs do a good job of spreading out and flanking).

Skill has nothing to do with; it's the desire to not be forced into replaying entire sections just because a stray bullet just happened to kill me from somewhere.

I am finding this game hard and I have only just discovered those jumpy guys. This is on normal difficulty. But then I suck at most games.

That said this game is fun and never knowing when it will save adds to the excitement.

I actually have a lot more trouble out doors then I do inside. Secret to the corridor levels is shotgun, backpedal, shotgun. I've taken to opening a door with my shotgun(reloaded first of course) and backpedaling instantly. I've blown through all the interior levels so far, the exterior ones take me a bit more time.

Never mind, you do not have the skill to play FarCry. 😛 Actually, if I was you I wouldn't even look at the game- Plan on getting shot from hundreds of yards away from some guy you can't see regularly. Of course, you can do the same to the other guys(they don't know where you are because you fired a single shot) so its all fair- but you will die from unseen gunmen many times playing through the game. That's actually the main problem I have with the game, try and run and gun in the outdoor levels and you will get your @ss handed to you.

I have the game, I don't have a problem with it's save points... what do you wanna do, save the game before each step?

On some of the tougher parts, yes. htere are plenty of tough parts, I am tired of paying long stretches over and over.

<--- hasn't played one part more than twice

The final level is an absolute pain in the ass. i have managed to finish the level where you get dropped out of the chopper with just an assult rifle with 10 bullets, and that is hard as hell. Then after many attempts at the next level i managed to get to the cutscene where you kill the dude who says "you don't understand, they're watching us", but my question is where from then? Is that the end of the game? if it is its not good. The auto_save function got used ALOT in these two levels.

I've tried to use this quicksave mod, but I was unsuccessful. I feel that I did everything it stated.

1. converted the DevMode.lua into wordpad
2. pasted: Input:BindCommandToKey("#Game:Save('quicksaved_game');","f9",1); Input:BindCommandToKey("#Game:Load('quicksaved_game');","f10",1); at the end of the file.
3. saved the file to my desktop.

After following all the steps, I still can not quicksave. Has anyone had the same isssue as me? Am I doing something wrong? Please advise.

Thank you!
