I tried out the Far Cry 2 built in benchmark with my GTX280 SLi rig and got some pretty excellent framerates on some very high settings:

GTX280 SLi @ 25X16 Ultra settings

I've included one of my HD4850 runs for comparison*, as well as single GTX280, the benefits of multi GPU are readily apparent.

*slightly lower settings for 4850, much less expensive card

Since we are also mentioning AMD, CF also scales pretty well with FC2 with the regular Cat 8-10

4870 1GB

19x12 ? 35.75 58.77 28.26

16x10 ? 37.55 68.17 30.17

4870x2

19x12 ? 61.29 83.47 45.12

16x10 ? 63.57 92.80 46.29

4870x3 CF = 4870x2 +4870/1GB

19x12 ? 73.33 113.12 49.03

16x10 ? 73.61 114.03 49.37

Here's my single 280GTX for comparison:

GTX280 178.24

19x12 ? 37.3 48.95 30.65

16x10 ? 43.53 67.27 36.31

This kind of fills in a pretty picture of performance down from 25x16, through 19x12 and 16x10 .. awesome!

. . .the benefits of multi GPU are readily apparent.
Completely agreed

for a change

edit: fixed .. and i see there are some differences in our settings besides the obvious resolution ones. i disable AI as it is more of a CPU function and gives more varied results.

i also run with maxed settings; 4xAA .. setting AF in the CP appears to have no effect as it is set automatically by the game in response to ever increasing settings that you adjust.

Perhaps I'll try AA next....

Very cool. Glad to see that more games are completely supporting the use of multiple GPUs. I'm considering ditching my P35 board for an nvidia 750 sometime next year and getting another GT.

i'd highly recommend disabling AI

it causes wildly varying results .. i believe we get the CPU too involved :p

most of my 3 bench runs we SO close ..
