I will pass on this game. It is built on the same foundation as the others, with the same map and icons and animals and its the same damn game but you are now a caveman with animal friends.

As long as Ubisoft keeps making single-player-centric open world games, I'll be cheering in their corner. The quality is good, the bugs are minimal, and I generally enjoy the hell out of them.

I thought this was pretty much expected with the short turnaround, no?

I thoroughly enjoyed Saint's Row 3, and was happy to get into SR4, but then realized it was just an expansion/mod of SR3. :\

I've never played a FC game, but it seems to me that FC2+ are sort of GTA, Assassin's Creed, a little Just Cause, + loot and crafting? FPS mechanics like the Chernobyl/Pripyat games?

I would say that is pretty accurate. I do think the FPS mechanics are better than the first STALKER game though. I never played any of the others so I can't comment on those.

ah cool. I'll probably get around to picking up FC 3 and/or 4 next time they are on sale...well, maybe. I dunno. I think I have that Bloodragon floating around somewhere, because of some holiday sale package, I think.

I liked Stalker a lot even though I only played it for about 5 hours 🙂D) and I generally hate FPS games. yes...that sounds strange. But I could tell that it was an awesome game, deserving of my attention, but I was just in some other place/mind when I first picked it up and played it, about 4 years ago

They are charging full AAA price for a reskinned FC4, with less features, weapons, modes of travel, etc. $20 seems about right considering the amount of effort they put into it.

I thoroughly enjoyed FC3 and FC4. This interests me, but I could see that maybe it's only a $30 purchase rather than a $60.

The Far Cry series has been a great series and I think even at $60 it's a steal. These are games which can easily provide someone with an amazingly fun and interesting weekend (and then some) vacation for $60.

UPDATE:

I'm about 20 hours into it and I LOVE it.

Yes, I'm one in the camp hoping for more 'of the same' in the Far Cry series. I loved 3, 4, and Blood Dragon.

There's something magical about this one though. I think it's a combination of the updated engine, the nature, and the fine tuned gameplay.

If you liked any of the previous Far Cry games, certainly play this one.
