Far Cry patch 1.4 is out (finally!)

So has anyone gotten it to work yet? If you get HDR on your ATi card then you should be able to get AA as well without application renaming.

Just set ATT/CCC to use application preference AA and then enable AA from the game.

Okay BFG10K, I installed the game and patched it with the full 1.4 patch (~180MB's or something) and launched the game.

First, it automatically detects your system and adjusts accordingly. However, when making settings in the Video options menu before the game launches there is no option for any type of HDR.

Then, upon entering the game I browse the in-game settings and video options only to find that there still isn't any in-game option for HDR. Once the game starts to play, I quickly discover that my mouse doesn't move my character in any fashion nor make the guy look in any direction. Basically, while in game my mouse did absolutely nothing. Although when I hit Esc and can move it all around and click on every thing that is in the game menu. I've never had a game do that, not even BF2.

So, I walk only being able to face ONE direction until I find a good beam of light through the cracked roof (the one by the skeleton on the steps) and bring up the console just to see if HDR can still be forced.

The first attempt didn't do anything, so I put the "DEVMODE" command through it following with the normal r_HDRRendering # command and it once again failed to do anything.

After restarting my computer several times and checking and re-checking the driver options, I went to Tweakguides to hear what they might have about the new patch. Turns out they mention others have been having a lot of issues with it as well and recommend on just keeping the 1.33. Basically, the 1.4 was only good for the multiplayer from the sounds of it and the whole thought of adding non-consoled support for the HDR+AA went down the hole.

Farcry is so old ... crysis is almost hear... geezz next month we will see the 1st Major Unreal 3 engine Based Game

You know who would love to get in on this thread? Dug! I just quoted you because I say that you want to unban Bug777 by bug777 do you mean dug777? I do agree Farcry is old and I never really liked the game much, I hope they do a real good job on crysis and make it play as nice as it looks so far.

with 1.4 it does work but not with AA even when forced or even renaming it to Oblivion. Is it BS?
HDR+AA does work on X1K in Far Cry if you use the 1.4b patch.

Well, yes but this is 1.4 Final. The beta patch has some bugs including infinite ammo...

people still play far cry...wow
Apparently we do

Just saying that HDR+AA works in this game, has for some time.

I hope you're not calling HDR+AA a bug, lol.

NO, man. What I'm saying is that 1.4 final doesn't LET you do HDR+AA. Beta DOES but it's also very buggy.

QFT.

The beta is better if you really only play single player (and have a X19k CF setup to utilize in Far Cry's poor performing HDR+AA), but the 1.4 patch resolved a lot of issues with multiplayer.

Well if its not working, I won't bother installing it. FC is one of my favorite games of all time, and wouldn't of minded a quick run through.

Yeah, I am rather disappointed. I had been wanting to go through the SP game again now that I have an X1900XT, guess I'll have to f*** around with the 1.4 beta to get HDR+AA working again. 😛

I never got the beta working right. Graphics were great, but had infinite ammo and other bizarre stuff. Was like playing in god mode.

Well, I still didnt beat Farcry, and looks like I might as well keep the 1.4 beta patch. Not that I mind the infinite ammo, but it always gets stuck when trying to play a ingame movie. I basically have to shuffle around some files for a cutscene, and then go back to 1.4b.

Ah well, that's too bad about the HDR+AA not working. Maybe 1.5, eh? 🙁

And yes, I still replay Far Cry regularly.

Can you use the HDR+AA currently or are you planning to use it in the future?

No and even if I could I wouldn't because I don't consider it a cost effective IQ enhancement in that game.

I'd much rather take the extra performance of HDR-less rendering and use it to increase resolution and/or AA.

HDR+AA gives practically no performance hit in Far Cry. Didn't on my X1800XT 256MB and certainly doesn't on my X1900XT 512MB. 🙂

But your original claim "HDR+AA gives practically no performance hit in Far Cry" is false according to those results. 1600x1200 was used in the tests and they're getting a massive peformance hit.

1600 x 1200 is enough for me! I thought the hdr looked great and was disapointed the gameplay wasn't up to snuff.
