Far Cry: How do I quick save?

I just started Far Cry. Damn is it hard even on Medium(or it may be easy). My reflexes are slow so I like to quick save. Can I just F5 it? Or do I have to bring down the console and type \save_game. Do I need to name the game or will it automatically do it for me?
Desktop icon has "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Crytek\Far Cry\Bin32\FarCry.exe" -DEVMODE for properties. I added the " -DEVMODE" part. But still F5, F9 doesn't work.

It's possible to bind the save and load commands to keys.

Open the console and type "\save_game" without the quotes.

Use tactics, this isn't Unreal Tournament. Snipe, lure them out, divide & conquer. If all you have is the standard assault rifle, then set it to single-fire mode, lie down on your tum and use the Aimed Mode and carefully snipe with it. The MP5 can do single-fire too. Sometimes the best option is to not fight at all, just skirt the bad guys and leave them behind.

I made it through the game on Realistic difficulty, don't know what to try next. :evil:


edit: throwing rocks is sometimes handy for luring the bad guys. The CryVision googles can be wonderful for picking up enemies through haze or smog, or in low-contrast locations.
