Far Cry *Holy Crap*

I bought Far Cry to see exactly how good the graphics actually are, because on the box they looked like crap. I think i can safely say that I about pissed myself, they were so nice. Had a little bit of a problem w/ the graphics, but that was fixed when I downloaded to 1.3 patch. What would be the best settings to run the game on with a ATI X800 Pro video card. High, medium, low, super high. Thanks.

1280*1024 at everything VERY HIGH AND ULTRA HIGH and also with anistrophic filtering 8x and antialiasing 6x , aslong as u have a fast cpu and 1gig memory you should run these settings at very good frame rates. i know i do with my 6800U.

When I was playing last night, I kept having something like mini-freezes where the mouse would stop responding for a second. Any idea what this is from? And king, you think u got enough HDs there?

Maybe not enough ram? Does it pause the first time you fire? It might be caching resources or seomthing. How much ram do you have?

RAM is definitely not a problem. I have 1GB of Crucial PC3200. It wouldn't happen all of the time, just every once in a while.

Cut down on the FSAA and bump up the Aniso. Too high of a FSAA setting will choke even a X850XT. Setting your AGP aperature size to 256mb or higher may or may not help to minimize the momentary pauses that you've described.

When you set the graphics options to VERY/ULTRA HIGH, PS 2.0b SHOULD automatically kick in, but I'm not sure about instancing and all the other features your x800 is capable of. Also, when you switch back and forth between graphics options, older settings can sometimes "stick" and is pain to reset. You can add the following to your shortcut properties to insure that that these features are always forced.

"c:\Far Cry\Bin32\FarCry.exe" -devmode "r_sm20bpath 1" "r_geominstancing 1" "r_TexNormalMapCompressed 1"

Another thing, I believe the patch is up to 1.31 now. You might want to apply that as well.
