Far Cry 2 the new graphics king?

We all know Crysis has been the king for awhile. Then of course Warhead naturally tops that.

But now there's Far Cry 2 coming out. Regardless of them trying to keep this on consoles it still managed to look incredible?
I think Crysis could very easily be ported to consoles, and saying that's not true is just a way to boost pc-gaming hype.

Anyway...

Is Far Cry 2 going to be considered the new graphics king over Warhead?

I doubt it. We've already seen the top end graphics that the Xbox 360 can push. And Crysis is well above that.

Take a look at Gears of War 2. Running that at 1280x720 is the maximum any console this generation is going to go.

This generation of consoles would never be able to maintain both the graphical quality and the draw distance that Crysis should have.

Crysis is going to stay king for this year. However, Far Cry 2 is a different style, so some people will prefer it over Crysis just like how some people prefer the UT3 engine over Crysis.

Says who? Says you? You're not an expert and have nothing backing up that claim. Every new shooter on the consoles looks better and better, and while this gen won't be able to touch Crysis on a top end PC they'll still get it to look better that GoW2.

That said, Far Cry 2 will look great but it probably won't be up to Crysis level of awesome.

Didn't the developer say it was not going to be as abrasive like Crysis was for system requirements?

Does not mean it's not going to be beautiful, but maybe not as extravagant as Crysis.

I like Crysis and Warhead, both are good games with great graphics, but the way some people talk about the graphics you would think that its the end all be all, wont ever get any better. The best looking 360/PS3 games hold their own against it.Its not like its the difference between a PS1 --> PS2 game or PS2 --> PS3.

I know the first time I played Crysis my first thought wasnt " oh man I can get rid of my 360 now " it was more like " ummmm... this is it ? ". If FarCry 2 doesnt take the crown,It will be a close 2nd.

Huh? Which PS3/360 games hold a candle to Crysis at full settings? A good gaming PC just outstrips either console in power by so much that they can't compete.

Can someone help me out here?? Too much wrong here.

Mass Effect had some reasonably good character models but otherwise looked like a 2003 game, despite its poor performance. UT3 is a far better example of what that engine is capable of.

Can't help you here... I use a 360 mostly and love both those games but still don't see what he's getting at.

Mass Effect has tremendous texture popup problems, so it doesn't matter how good it looks if you have to wait for it to load properly every time. FNR3 is good looking but considering the ENTIRE MACHINE is being used to render TWO MODELS of course it's going to look decent.

Maybe you haven't played Crysis on high detail with a decent display skyofavalon, but it's something I don't see the current consoles doing as well.

I can't believe people still argue the 360/PS3 can hold a candle to the PC.

You would think common sense would be enough to make a person realize that 2 year-old hardware is simply not as good as current hardware.

Also guys, remember, consoles only go up to 1280x720 (1920x1200 for some games but not the best looking ones) which is a pretty low resolution (compared to PC) and many games have a 30fps restriction.

No game on the 360/PS3 will ever look as good as Crysis, END OF STORY.

P.D: Before anyone brings it up, yeah, technically Crysis can be ported to the current consoles, technically Crysis can also be ported to the Nintendo DS, the thing, it just won't be the same.

Heh, Oblivion was "ported" to cell phones.

I play Warhead on Enthusiest at 1080p on a high end projector so I've seen everything it has to offer and I agree it is the graphics king. What I dont agree is that it looks light years ahead of every other game. There is a way bigger difference between a PS2 ---> PS3 game than there is between 360/PS3 ---> Crysis. It doesnt look like its from a different generation of games from Mass Effect,Fight Night,Gears of War,just the top of the food chain.

Mass Effect on 360 has its share of problems. It also has its moments(such as when you are talking to Wrex) that Crysis cant touch.

That might be because when you're talking to characters in Mass Effect, the models are most of what's being rendered, thus the high detail. Crysis and the other games mentioned are in the same generation - they all look good. But soon enough, there will be games that the 360/PS3 won't be able to come close to. Granted, current PCs probably won't be able to run them at highest settings either, but that's why new hardware is always being developed.

Right. If you want to play Mass Effect without constant texture popping, you need a PC.
