Far Cry 2 / FIXED

So I got the game running with help from all of you guys. Thanks

However, now I can play the game for 5 minutes or less *it varies* and it just kicks me and my computer reboots.

Video card temps are 51c at load.

Suggestions ?

Yep, the hotfixes are installed. Well, I think anyway.

I downloaded the hotfix drivers. I think they were 8.10's.

try below 19x10 😛

see what is supported

perhaps you need to edit the game's files
-sometimes i do not always get all of my resolutions available to me in game

Did you ever get your check?

You will need to edit the config file for the game. This happened to me too. My Documents/My Games/Far Cry 2/GamerProfile.xml, right click and open with either xml editor or wordpad. You'll need to edit this line:

<quality ResolutionX="800" ResolutionY="600"

It will probably say something like 1024 and 972 or some weird number, anyhow, set it to 1920 and 1200 or 1920 and 1080 (or below), save the file, run the game, and you're set. Further graphic changes made in-game as typical.

Edit: that line may appear twice, make sure to change them both. It's a small file, you'll find em.

I found that file and changed it to my resolution twice. However, I am still getting the Mode Not Supported message 😕

This is whats in the file.

D3v has put you on the right track. Reading your GamerProfile.xml you also need to change (as well as what D3v said to change) Maximized to 1 ForceWidescreen to 1 and most importantly RefreshRate to 59. The link from the Ubisoft forum below from a user with a 40" inch Samsung HDTV who had this mode not supported problem and got it fixed says if changing RefreshRate to 59 doesn't work, you should find out what refresh rate your LCD uses. Also if you start FarCry2 in dx9 mode, you shouldn't have this problem. These changes are only needed for dx10 mode.
See: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/foru...=2511042896#2511042896

Edit: If just setting RefreshRate on its own to 59 or 60 or whatever your LCD uses solves the problem, and you want to play in window mode, leave Maximized and ForceWidescreen as 0. This is what I use on my 24" widescreen LCD and I can use both window and fullscreen.
There is also a fix if you have a widescreen as some of the screen is cut off. See:
http://www.widescreengamingfor...postorder=asc&start=63

I am trying to run it in DX9 mode.

However, I tried everything you said babcom. And I am still getting mode not supported 😕

The refresh rate of my LCD TV is 60. And it is a Samsung as well.

If "mode not supported" is being displayed by your LCD TV, then your using an incorrect resolution.

Try something very low like 1024 x 768 using the built in benchmark.

I got it working. Freakin DUH !!

There was *one* more setting in the xml file that needed the resolution changed. I didnt see it. Changed it and now it works fine.

Averaging 25-30fps with the current rig in sig at 1920x1080.

Power supply is new. Nothing is overclocked, and this is the only game it does it in. I tried several others and they work fine.

Usually a computer would shut down if your having cooling issues with your CPU, GPU, etc. Maybe the game got too intense on the CPU/GPU, they overheated and shut down the computer to prevent hardware damage?

Well I could understand that if other games did it as well. But the area where it shuts off at in Far Cry 2 is the very first room in the game where you pick up three guns. Then you gotta go outside and fix the car.

Shuts off in that room.

EDIT: CPU load temp is 41c / GPU load temp is 51c

This one? 😉 Seriously though, rebooting like that with your temps tends to indicate not enough juice, what PSU do you have?

LOL at the Rosewill 🙂

I have this one.

I mean it isn't the absolute best, But I do believe it is more than adequate.

How would it not be enough juice if ALL other games I can play for hours ? Like PREY, Doom 3, Quake 4 Half Life 2 + Portal and many many others.

Problem solved. I dont know why, but uninstalling and then reinstalling worked fine.

Played 4 hours into it.

Thanks for all the help guys
