I was playing this mod for Far Cry, after doing a second playthrough of the main game recently. It is unfinished/abandoned and is more of a showcase for the graphics than anything else, but it still has three maps of substantial length and some nice gameplay. It's a lot more demanding on hardware than the stock Far Cry, but the graphics in some areas come pretty close to Crysis and other modern games. I took some screenshots:

DS0001
DS0002
DS0003
DS0004
DS0005
DS0006

Some normal Far Cry shots for comparison:

FC0001
FC0002
FC0003

Far Cry already looks quite impressive considering that it's almost 5 years old now, but this mod really shows what that engine was capable of.

It does look superb! I'm going to get this one and install Far Cry yet again! :)

Those screenshots look amazing; they sort of remind me of the early Allan Wake screenshots.

That is amazing. It's really too bad that this mod was abandoned, but that won't stop me from checking it out.

Wow, beautiful screens! I wonder if I still have my FarCry discs somewhere...

You just reminded me of Alan Wake again! I've been waiting for this game ever since I heard the basic premise of the story and the saw the screens...god knows when it'll hit the stores!

Honestly, the original Far Cry itself looks better than Crysis does imho.

I think so too. I really was confused as to how Crysis had become the new graphical standard when there are so many better overall looking games that played better technically. But I will check out this mod if I can find my dvd. :)

I always thought that there should have been more developers releasing games on this engine. Even the stock Far Cry graphics with HDR could hold their own against almost any newer game, often with much better performance, until late 2007 when Crysis came out.

By the way, if any of you try this out, the initial map loading times are very long, so don't be surprised if the loading screen seems to hang for a few minutes. It's probably a bug, but quickloading works fine once you get into the map.

It's amazing to see what the original CryEngine can do still today, FarCry was in advance of its time and that is why today its engine can still sustain such graphics quality, really CryTek came out of nowhere on the video gaming market with FarCry and they wow'ed everyone (similarly to Valve with Half-Life circa 1998), but unfortunately they decided to focus their efforts for the next console generation (going on the same road as Epic with their UEngine 3.0 and their next version of it as well) which in turn as we know will end up giving us console ports with reduced graphics quality, I hope they reconsider.

It's very beautiful that's for sure, I think I will re-install my FarCry copy just to try it even if I won't actually play it.
