So while going through some of my old disc I found my FC1 and decided to install it to see how it handles vista 64 as I heard some talk of problems. I installed it without any problem. I played through just long enough to get to the end of the tutorial level, in general it worked fine (I did no patching yet) except the ground terrain outside of the initial cave is totally white. Trees, boats, and everything else are there but it's all sitting on a vast bland white surface.

Looking at the main crytek page I see 0 patches for 64bit and 7 for 32 bit, with the latest being version 1.4. Do I just need to install the 1.4 32 bit patch and everything be fine, or is there something I should do for running a 64bit OS?

Actually, I think those 64 bit patches are for XP 64. Vista didnt exist when this game came out. I have the DVD version with the 32 and 64 bit versions both on the disc, and they clearly say its for XP 64. I would assume the patches on the web page are the same.

Go ahead and try it. If it doesnt work you can always uninstall and try again.

Just ignore the 64 bit version of Far Cry. It is just marketing. Just get your FarCry patched up to the latest patch and see if that solves any problems you had. I played it somewhat recently and it worked fine for me.

Installed the 1.4 complete patch; got my ground terrain back. Selected over to VH for all graphic options as she's playing silky smooth. In the couple minutes I've played I'm only at the carrier so far, but there is a real noticeable difference between my graphic power now and then. :)

Sadly, FarCry still looks better than many of today's games.

Dont even bother with the 64-bit garbage. It TRULY doesn't work. I posted this on the steam forums, but here it goes again.

In steam, do as followed.

Steam>My games>Right Click Far Cry>Create Desktop Shortcut>Right Click Shortcut>Run As Administrator

I couldn't have felt any dumber after realizing I couldn't run Starcraft without running it as an admin. Every once in a while it freezes on loading but that can be cured by a quick process kill and restart of Far Cry. I spent HOURS trying to find out how to get it to work, downloading unnecessary patches and all. Well, after a clean install and latest patch this worked.

When I bought my current system, I reinstalled it with all the 64-bit patches and never had a problem. I went through and tried to max a bunch of the graphics variables, and it could still drop my fps down to 30 if looking at a bunch of trees. I think the command that does it is the one related to how far trees turn into sprites.

Anyone else having problems with FC1 and Windows 7 x64? I've tried both the x32 and x64 patches with no luck.

With FC v1.4 x32, the game starts fine, but freezes during the level loading screen. With FC 1.32 x64 (the latest 64-bit) patch, the game won't start at all.

I've tried both running the game as Admin and also in compatibility mode. Any suggestions?
