16 teams is too many, cap it at 12. With 16, people are going to have to start backups every week. Trying to figure out which #4 receiver will get 20 catches is not very much fun. Do you really want people starting Luke Staley, Josh Scobey, and Lenzie Jackson?

You're kidding I hope. There are only a handfull of players that make each franchise, so its a weekly challenge to fill in the gaps. Last year was so injury ridden that most teams were greater than 50% turnover. Its half the fun to find backups and then to time their play with your weekly schedule. Takes a whopping ten minutes to check schedules - time you should be spending on it anyhow. Where's the inconvenience?

No, I'm not kidding. There aren't enough players in the league to fill out 16 teams of 15 players each. And that's not even taking into account bye weeks. Some people are going to be forced to start a backup, like Amos Zeroue or Lamont Jordan, every single week. Players who, if they're lucky, will get 2 touches per game. And if your regulars are backups, what happens in a bye week? You're going to start Elvis Joseph? You might as well leave that spot empty.

When you join make sure you type the league's number in manully, as if you cut and paste it leaves an extra space in there that causes an error. Otherwise its as simple as setting up a Yahoo account. 🙂

If you look at the different categories for scoring there is plenty of room for everyone.

Completions (1)
Incomplete Passes (-1)
Passing Yards (40 yards per point)
Interceptions (-2)

This allows a team to field a consistent quarterback over a field general like Brett Favre, and still have a decent chance to keep up. There are alot of >50% quarterbacks in the league, but very few put up the touchdowns. Its usually the high risk quarterbacks that have better chances of hitting the scores. Choose a high risk quarterback and suffer mediocricy.

Rushing Yards (10 yards per point)
Rushing Touchdowns (6)
Reception Yards (10 yards per point)
Reception Touchdowns (6)

Alot of teams use one player for short yardage and another for the open field. This rewards the players with alot of yards but few touchdowns, a common occurence in the NFL. Sure you have Marshall Faulk or Edgerrin James that dominate the scoring, but with sixteen teams you will not have more than ONE franchise player per team! Otherwise finding backups and starters every week is the whole point of fantasy football!

0 Pts Allowed (10)
1-6 Pts Allowed (6)
7-13 Pts Allowed (3)
14-20 Pts Allowed (2)
21-27 Pts Allowed (0)
28-34 Pts Allowed (-2)
35+ Pts Allowed (-3)
Sack (1)
Interception (2)
Fumble Recovery (2)
Touchdown (6)
Safety (2)
Block Kick (2)

You have the chance to stick in a new defense from week to week. If you get stuck with the lower tier of the league then there are always the possibilities of finding a team against a weak offense! The scoring for defense is weakest because it is the hardest part of the gme to spread out among fantasy players. You could have six teams and the league and the same problem would result because there are only a few consistent defenses each year. Thats part of the fun of fantasy football, to learn the teams more intimately! 🙂

Return Touchdowns (6)
Field Goals 0-19 Yards (3)
Field Goals 20-29 Yards (3)
Field Goals 30-39 Yards (3)
Field Goals 40-49 Yards (4)
Field Goals 50+ Yards (5)
Field Goals Missed 0-19 Yards (-1)
Field Goals Missed 20-29 Yards (-1)
Field Goals Missed 30-39 Yards (-1)
Field Goals Missed 40-49 Yards (-1)
Field Goals Missed 50+ Yards (0)
Point After Attempt Made (1)
Point After Attempt Missed (-1)

Special teams are the often overlooked equalizer. I've seen kickers that ended up swinging the outcome of the whole league with their consistency. I've seen important matchups between superpower players decided on a missed field goal. Again, its all a part of the fun. 🙂

Maybe we could get yardage for returns added in for extra measure. Most return men are not starters, meaning that it spreads the scoring wealth all the more. Its all about scoring, though, so pick your teams carefully.

Happy hunting come Tuesday!

i agree why did you change it to 16 teams??
that sucks
leave it at 12 teams please
do you think 16 ppl will show up for the LIVE draft??

You don't understand what I'm talking about. Scoring has absolutely nothing to do with it. There are NOT ENOUGH STARTING PLAYERS IN THE NFL to fill these teams. If any of your starters has a bye week, you're screwed. If you have an injury, your season is over. Your FANTASY backups need to be NFL starters, and that is not going to happen. Therefore, the league has no integrity.

Ok Boys, compromise... Wait ill do it for you, I made it 14 total teams & the league is now full.

Let the beatings begin! 😉

jaeger66 doesn't seem to realize there are 32 teams in the NFL, each having rosters of 53 players.

32 teams * 53 player rosters = 1696 players (not including moves during the season)

Lets take it down a little bit and determine the number of starters. Each team has one starting defense and eleven starting offensive players. (Actually some teams rotate in as many as sixteen potential starters with personell packages, but that is another argument.) Add a placekicker since we include them in the league, too. Thats like twelve starters per team.

32 teams * 12 starters = 384 players

We only need 15 starters for 14 fantasy football teams. Actually the point is that there are enough starters for 16 fantasy football teams, but I'm proving my point. There are way more than enough starters in the NFL to accommodate sixteen fantasy football teams.

16 fantasy teams * 15 players on the roster = 240 players

Out of the 384 "starters in the NFL" we will be recruiting 62.5% of them. Now we haven't even included personell that specialize in one aspect of the game versus another. There are alot of runningbacks that do not start yet still score a majority of the team's touchdowns due to their role as short yardage runningback. Then you have your backups. Added altogether there are about 1,000 potential players to choose from on any given Sunday. Nothing near the bleeding shortage you insist upon!

Uh, the offensive line doesn't count. At most, you have 3 WRs and 2 RBS starting per game. And really only a handful of teams rotate 2 RBs, plus the slot receiver does not play every down. But I'll play along and say 7 per team. That's 224. So we already have a shortfall even when you include guys like Travis Minor(who won't ever see the ball unless the Dolphins are up by 30), and QBs like Chris Redman. And then there's bye weeks. Are you going to waste a mid round pick just to cover for that one week when your QB is off? The short bench and large starting roster in this league makes that a very tough thing to do.

What I would do:

14 is a lot, but workable so leave it.

Eliminate one WR slot, change one RB slot to RB/WR, add one to the roster. This will prevent people from having to drop good players to cover a bye as well as allowing a more flexible approach.

you pick your team from the draft of pros, and follow their stats through the season, starting who you choose to start and trading too. If your guys have the best stats then you win. If you have Dante Culpepper or Marshall Faulk and they blow out their knees in week one, then you are prolly not gonna do well.

Here's another league you may want to join:

$20 to play , you gotta pay before you play, or your team will be removed just before draft day. This ensures the winner gets their full prize after a season's worth of hard work.

you may send payments to either my home address:

3rd place: $10. ($20 if team with best record does not lead in points)
2nd place: $30. ($50 if team with the best record does not lead in points)
1st place: THE REST OF THE $$$

League ID#: 76583
Password: cashrules

Points:
Point system will be based on ESPN's Performance Scoring System (heavily yardage based compared to Yahoo! which is very TD oriented)
http://games.espn.go.com/content/ffl/2002/rules?page=performancescoring

Positions: QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, WR, TE, K, Def

TRADES:
Trades must be made in an attempt to benefit both teams. League members may protest the trade. In the event that over half the remaining players oppose the trade, the trade will be vetoed. The league office will put its best effort in ensuring fairness and preserve the integrrity of Grid Iron Gambling.

Vetoed trades:
-Both owners ask to cancel
-Collusion
-A recently injured player is involved. Proposal was made before injury.
-The League Office deems it unlikely to help one of the teams

The Draft
Currently, available draft dates are limited to weekdays. All weekdays before 12pm seem to be available if the current date does not work for you we will try to work something out. If you absolutely cannot make it to the draft, the computer will draft for you (based on o-rank) which isn't entirely bad humans can sometimes make poor judgements at the spur of the moment whereas computers don't. Although I'd strongly suggest changing pre-ranks to a more reliable source such as copying www.fftoday.com 's rankings or some other reputable place.

Moves:
Each team is limited 8 moves this season. This will account for roughly 1 move every two weeks. It is STRONGLY reccomended that you save at least one move once NFL's trading deadline passes.

Changes:
All of us will pay their fair amount in this league. So I will allow changes to be made to this league so long as at least two-thirds of the league supports it. I'm a bit hesitant to change certain things (ie: point system and positions since both are already standardized)
