a good pitcher is always good to go for, but can also be devistating...i picked up pedro first pick last year and then he was injured all year

but someone like randy johnson would be good...pitchers are usually important(but depends on scoring)

a catcher is good to get early...there arent too many good offensive catchers

there are so many outfielders...and so many that will be surprises...u can get away with only picking 1 outfeilder near the top if u pay attention during the season and pick up some outfielders that are surprises...

1B there are a lot of also...

the rest of the infeild is always so-so...

well, some of it depends on how your league is scored, but there are some general tips you can follow....

Make a list of the top players at each position...you will see more quality at certain positions, and you can afford to wait to fill those spots while you fill the positions that aren't as deep....

Keep in mind you should have a list of the top 10 or so overall players, and if you can get one or more of them, you should do so.

The top offensive players are Todd Helton, Alex Rodriquez, Barry Bonds, Jason Giambi, Manny Ramirez....and so on...Do the same thing for pitchers...

Read up on Rookies and second year guys, you can usually find some bargains/late picks who give you great value....I am kind of a baseball nut, and when I drafted Adam Dunn last year, there was some snickering, but I stashed him on my reserve list, and when I had some OF injuries to deal with, I stuck him in late in the season and he did a great job for me...same is true with Roy Oswalt.

Also, make sure you know how your league accounts for steals...most leagues value them too much, so make sure if yours does that you get at least one good guy for stolen bases......don't draft any Rockies pitchers, perhaps Mike Hampton is worth a pick for depth, but don't depend on any of those guys for consistent wins or a good ERA....if you league gives any value to holds, don't forget about a solid middle relief/setup guy...don't draft closers too high, but make sure you get one or two legit closers...

Have fun and good luck

just make sure you don't get stuck with a cheapass 2nd baseman, 3rd baseman, shortstop, and catcher, and you should be fine...
outfield and 1b are deep, so you can afford not to get helton or bonds....
i think pitchers are overrated, there's the big boys and then a bunch of *maybe they'll do good* people... if you can get a first rate pitcher then go for it, but i always end up picking two or three pitchers off the waiver wire after a couple weeks that end up having better stats than some of the 2nd or 3rd round pitchers
as for relievers, i like to have one big name and pick up 4 less reliable closers in later rounds or after the draft, and i usually lead in the saves department, but some people don't like to take up roster space with 5 relievers
this is probably a lot more info than you wanted hehe
but yea just make sure you end up with a pretty good infield roster, and you'll be competing at the end of the season

ok just finished draft...tell me what you guys think about my picks...i don't follow baseball that much besides the A's and Giant's so i might have crappy picks...haha

i'm "A's All The Way" if you can't see anything you might have to have a yahoo id...if you still can't see anything i guess you can't see it then...
