I'm going through my things in fantastico and there are several content management options there. i'm wondering which is the best and easiest to use?

i have:

Drupal
Geeklog
Joomla
Mambo Open Source
PHP-Nuke
phpWCMS
phpWebSite
Post-Nuke
Siteframe
TYPO3
Xoops

i've gone to some of their websites and looked at demos and some looks nice but i just don't knwo which to use. should i just install each one and play around with it or do you guys have a specific rcommendation?

I've only used Mambo from that list. It takes some time to learn how to skin it yourself and get used to the way it works, but once you get it down it's really nice.

I've gone through all of those and I always come back to drupal. It's a pain in the @ss with all the quirks and bugs. But it really is the best combination of features. Huge community for help too.

Undoubtedly. It's more work, of course, but otherwise any of these ones is likely to be deluged with spam and/or "hacked" by idiot script kiddies.

i'm just going to be using whatever templates they provide most likely.
i don't need anything super special.

i would like to be able to edit the content from a webpage instead of copying the file to my pc, edit it manually, and then copy it back too the server.

do any of those offer that type of thing? or am i looking in the wrong direction?

Joomla > * in regards to php/mysql
DotNetNuke > * in regards to c#/sqlserver/dotnet framework.

that is like asking what brand of maple syrup is best

each person is likely to give you a different answer and none may match your own

just try some

it probably sets up the default one for you, which looks decent. you can however find many MANY themes for php-nuke. you just upload them to the corresponding /theme/ folder on your webspace, go to your www.yoursite.com/admin.php file and change the php-nuke theme to the desired one, and it changes the entire look of your site with the push of 1 button.

i've gone in myself though and changed some of the stuff in stlye.css and made some of my own modules and blocks for that site, but in general it's a very nice easy to use and setup interface, even for people who don't know anything about programming or web design.

Joomla!

It's made by the devs from Mambo, they had differences and split from them. Joomla! is gaining support from the old Mambo crowd and is growing fast.
