Fans of Choice to replace the noise

im using a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ on my CPU which never hits above 50C on a bad day on the low RPM setting and 2 Thermaltake Smart Fans (1st revision, 1 intake, 1 exhaust)

The noise isnt really a pain but i wouldnt mind reducing the noise for a very small amount of cash. I dont want to change the Volcano 7+ Heatsink but I wouldnt mind changing the fan if I could get a suitable 70mm replacement. For 80mm fans, ive heard some Panaflo L1A's and Vantec Stealth fans are good but since I live in the UK, Im unsure of availability. If more names could be mentioned, I can take a check with the local stores and choose.

My case is rather awkward as it has 1x80mm intake position which isnt normal (wording is bad)

There are no screw holes in the case to accept any size fan but instead there is a large plastic shape which encloses the fan and takes a tight grip to hold the fan in place. I think this could be a source of vibration noise and could also restrict proper airflow. I'll see if i can get some pictures of it but im not promising.
Any suggestions of what i can do? Im not a DIY expert but I can use a screwdriver without hurting myself 🙂

Any help received will be appreciated. Keep costs down as much as possible, Im a college student. ie. constantly broke 🙂

[EDIT: if I do get a new fan to fit my Volcano 7+, could i still use the Fan Speed Controller or would it need to be modded to suit?]

yes ,you still can use the fan speed controller
try the Y.S Tech TMD fan it's at 70 mm and its pretty quiet.it spins at around 5700 rpm.
with the fan speed controller ,it will be even quiet
i do not know its price, because it is not sold in malaysia
but i think that fan is quite pricey.it uses new technology

Elcs, if you go the TMD route on your Volcano 7 be sure you don't torque down the screws too tight. That seems to be the major source of problems w/ that fan. Also, if you can place some rubber washers between the heatsink and the fan that would help.

If you want to replace your case fan I've had good luck w/ the YSTech 80mm adjustable fan. The rheostat on the fan has more adjustability than any other fan I've seen. You can dial it down to silent and still get good airflow. The rheostat is on a 24" long wire so you can mount it out the back of your case, if you choose. In the States we can get this fan for $8 @ newegg.

If you have a fan speed controller already, can't you just turn down the RPMs on your current fan? In my experience, "quiet" fans like the Vantec Stealth aren't any quieter than good quality fans that have had their RPMs decreased to the same level.

No. The Fan Speed Controller is supplied with the Volcano 7+ and only controls that fan, not all of them.
That fan is rather quiet and provides decent enough cooling but the additional silence factor may be golden.

I might get that Thermaltake Hardcano Version that can adjust fan speeds but Im not sure on that one. I think I'll need more opinions to judge that from (and my bank account 🙂)

My last post was from College when I didnt have much time so, I have to thank 'bgeh' and 'Jeff H' for hitting the nail on the head for my fan issue. Unfortunately, these are the only Y-S Tech Fans and these YS Tech Fans were the only ones I could find in the UK.

I was thinking of removing these Tt Smart Fan 1's with Tt Smart Fan 2's. The 2nd versions look really neat and useful.
Still searching for those YS Tech 70mm's though, evasive little things they are.

[EDIT: The Tt Smart Fan 2's are twice the price of the YS Tech 80mm's]

Apologies for posting on my own thread again but I have a new update.

I currently cannot find any UK-based dealer selling YS Tech Variable 80mm Fans nor can I find a YS Tech 70mm TMD Fan.

It looks as though i'll have a hard job finding some from the UK and Trans-Atlantic shipping costs/times are not healthy.

*bump*

Surely there are other options for some quiet/effective 80mm fans (preferably cheap and adjustable) and also the big one, a 70mm fan which is hard to find I assume (as i can hardly find one)
