Fanless Scythe Ninja

Just thought I'd share my experience with this cpu cooler. I picked one up for use on a server at my work. It's cooling an Opteron 144 and since my boss is a noise freak we decided to try the hsf fanless. I must admit I was very surprised at the performance. The single core Opterons aren't the hottest things on the market but I still expected the fanless Ninja to be a little inadequate.

With the 144 running at 2.9GHz@stock volts temps never got above 48C under load. Ambient temps were ~72F. The case only has one low rpm 80mm fan in the front and one 92mm fan in the rear. Obviously, motherboard temps could be off, but they can't be that far off if the chip was Prime stable. Very impressed with this cooler.

I'm also running a Scythe Ninja fanless on my x2 3800+ @2.5GHz default vcore. Works great!

how does that compare to the stock cooling with the fan? I wanted to know if it is cooler or not.

Not sure. It's an OEM chip so I never got the chance to try a stock hsf.

Nice job! Especially getting a boss to let you o/c! 🙂

Lol. I was actually testing the chip out for my office rig (which hasn't arrived yet) when he came walking in. I was stoked to get a 1GHz oc on stock volts with a fanless hsf but all he said was "You're putting that back to stock right?" I guess he wasn't as thrilled as I was. 🙁 I threw a poorly ocing 146 in the server and I'm keeping the 144 for my office rig.
