Fanless GF3?

😱 I doubt it, perhaps a stock GF3TI200 would manage it but I'd expect you'd want a BIG efficient HS and maybe still need to underclock it. Best bets would be a Rad9000PRO or possibly a GF4TI4200 or Rad9500 if you need a little more. The Rad9000 series inc PRO are known to be able to run fanless but if it comes with a fan as standard you will void your warranty if you remove it.

EDIT: Oh don't forget you'll need some good compund too, Coolermaster or Arctic Silver perhaps. Also rem some fans are VERY hard to detatch ...

I'd bet something like an NForce2 or KT400 northbridge cooler would be enough.
not gonna let you overclock the thing... but i think it would keep cool enough to run it.
if you could have a low speed case fan blowing air near there that would be perfect!

i have a geforce3 ti200 64MB w/no fan ( it broke, havent replaced it yet )... I have it OCed w/coolbits to the max. My case had some fan "ports" in the side which i filled with 2 80mms. Now the vid card gets airflow across the chip!

You would need something like this to run without a fan... Zalman
... you definately dont need that!

its seems at full load ( microsoft Rally Sport Challenge - playback mode ) and full overclock, the cards is just over warm. no big deal... but this is if you have the ti200.

I agree you do not need a Zalman to cool just a GF3 core.

So you guys don't recommend a fan at all for GF3 cards?

not really recommending it.. I am just saying it's not like you need a badass cooler on there
a passive HS will work....

Actually, my GF3Ti200 stock, was a compaq OEM i believe, an MSI manufactured card. I got it off some auction place for really cheap ($52 shipped over 6 months ago). It never came with a fan, and ran fine. I would assume it was supposed to. Knowing me, I put a nice 60mm fan on the HS.

I assume you could still find these.

A fan is probally needed most of the time, but if you have good airflow through your case you can probally run a gF3 with no fan.

ooooo, thanks for the info. I skipped generations and went from a GF2 to a GF4 and thought all of em need some kind of fan to help with the airflow and cooling.

😉 I wouldn't expect a GF4MX420, MX440 or GF4TI4200 to throw off much more heat than a GF3TI200. I'd still use extreme caution as it'd be a shame to fry the card as more noise tends to come from case fans, PSU etc.

i ran a geforce3 classic without a fain..
i stuck on a huge dynatron microfin HSF though... the heatsink got damn hot... the GPU was around 70C..

😉 Perhaps a little decent compound, a decent HS and then perhaps a smart adjustable fan (like used on TT Volc 9) would be a good idea, a very low RPM fan would hardly give off any noise but cool a LOT better than no fan at all ...
