FANLESS 1.4GHz Athlon

Well, not quite. Running a 1.3GHz chip at 13 * 107 = 1391MHz.

Using the Zalman CNPS6000Cu heatsink with some arctic silver.

I noticed that even with the fan on slowest setting and running prime 95 the heatsink would barely get warm. So now I'm running fanless and it still remains at a very reasonable 50°.

Wow...not bad at all. I thought the Zalman HSF's sucked.

In any case, the Panaflo L1A is barely audible...it works well on larger heatsinks like the 8045 and the AX7.

Impressive, almost hard to believe. 🙂

Too bad the sv24 cant take a chip that high. Would be a perfect little rig with a 1.4 and no fan.

Zalmon + Fanless cooling a CPU, oh yeah, thats what I wanted to hear. Gonna get one for a P4 1.6a. I really need the silence for pro audio recording.

I've got a thermalright Sk6, ASII, XP1600 with the fan removed and a small 3000rpm blower fan from Radio Shack mounted to the side and blowing thru the fins, for my digital audio workstation @ 40C. I love the XP but I need that P4 with no fan.

I've read there isn't much difference between the Al/Cu version and the all copper one as far as cooling goes.

😎

Zalmans don't suck. not the copper ones anyway. where did u c that?

not a single review on the copper zalmans said they SUCKED.

they are annoying as hell to install but they cool well.

wow thats awesome. one question. arent the athlon xps supposed to be cooler than the old thunderbirds? could I concievably unhook my fan from my athlon 1800+?

good question loserbutt.

i got my 1700 and my zalman sitting on the shelf doin nothing. i got the alpha pal 8045 on my 1700+.

mb i try zalman w/o fan and see what happens to temps. 🙂

wow barely warm even under prime95? If I shut my water pump off my system comes crashing down in seconds. Of course I have a tbird 900@1100@1.86v so i guess its putting out quite a bit more heat than ur chip.

what case do you have? any other fans?

if you have very good air flow running a without a fan on your heatsink is possible. Unforunately most cases don't really allow good air flow. 🙁

"Barely warm" was running with the fan. Without it does get "hot" to the touch, but it's by no means TOO hot.

I've got an Inwin 500 case. Fans are very limited. I have a 7v 80mm Panaflo L1A in my power supply, and a 7v 92mm Panaflo blowhole in the front of the case, blowing air across the hard disk.

In the case I have a Geforce2, Voodoo 3000, 120GB WD, CD, CDR, zip, floppy, SB Platinum (with drive bay) and a removable bay for my car MP3 player. Also a NIC. All but 2 of my slots are full and every bay on the front of the case is occupied.

I don't have rounded cables but I do have all of my ribbons arranged very neatly so as not to screw up my limited airflow.

The motherboard is an A7V.

BTW:

Most tests show the Zalman (although adequate) to be outperformed by most other heatsinks. However, I believe if you took the fan off of each heatsink the Zalman would cool the best because

(a) it has such a weak CFM to start with
(b) the fins are better "spread" to let hot air escape without forced cooling.

those tests all show lukewarm results because of the fan the zalman uses. all reviewers also comment that this is an EXCEPTIONAL HSF.

not everyone wants or can stand the noise of a DELTA SCREAMER.
