I've been getting $12 haircuts my whole life, and I can't say that I've ever really loved one. I've been letting my hair grow wild lately, but It's time to get a new job, so I'm going to get it cut.

Just wondering, if anyone swears by the $30+ "salon" haircut, as opposed to the regular old $12 barber shop cut?

I'll probably give it a shot this one time, cause it won't be any worse than I'm used to...

**UPDATE**

Alright, I did it, went to the fancy salon, and ordered the "works" (they diddn't call it that, but thats what it ammounted to)

--Shampoo + Condition (w/plenty of bewbage)
--Proffesional Haircut (by the owner nonetheless)
--Eyebrow Wax (I know...I know...but...eh what the hell?)

Shampoo+cut = $35
Eyebrow Wax = $15

Subtotal = $50
Tip = $10 ($5 for hairdresser, $5 for eyebrow lady)
Total =$60

My experience was overall very positive, I really like the cut I got, and the atmosphere was alot more relaxing and luxorius(sp?). I decided to spring for the eyebrows, when I was getting the haircut a. because that is the first establishment I've ever been to that does them, b. They were looking kinda shaggy, and c. the hot hairdresser w/ big bewbies thought it would look good. It diddn't hurt very much for the waxing, and there is a noticeable difference, but I'm not sure I would do that every time.

I think that $60 for what I got is OK, I don't feel ripped off or anything, but I think that the $35+tip for just the wash/cut is more than fair.

and of course, the bewbs are priceless (sorry... no :camera:'s :( )

I've been happiest with the $5 haircuts. But then I moved to a larger city (still only ~200,000 people) and $5 haircut places don't exist there. The $10 haircuts have been the best. I got a few free haircut coupons at the expensive salons. I didn't tell them about the coupon until after my haircut was done. Then I gave them a $10 tip. The result? Worst haircuts of my life. In one case one sideburn was 1/2 inch lower than the other.

Unless you want some kind of fashionable haircut, it's going to look pretty much the same as a haircut from a regular barber.

It depends on who you ask. If you ask me, the answer is no. If you ask bridgen, the answer is yes.

If you're a flaming metrosexual, yeah you'll need the $30+ haircuts. If you're a real man, you'll keep paying for the barber's haircut. Most guys these days have hair too long, IMO. Mine is a 1/2" clipper job around it. Takes about 5-10 minutes. Oh sure, I used to spend 15 minutes doing my hair every day back in my late teens. I had awesome hair. I also looked pretty fruity (but what guy with good hair doesn't?). I grew up, and realized that wasting time on hair sucks, so now I don't. I've never been happier!

Sometimes i went to ~$15 places where they wash your hair (i sometimes didnt have to pay anything except tip maybe). You have to go where the girls are hot and have nice boobies. You get good boobage when they have to reach over you when they are washing your hair. haha. i shave my head now so salons mean nothing to me. Most of the time i went to a local barber shop and paid $5-6 a haircut.

Flowbee anyone?

My mum has 18yrs of hair cutting experience and gets hair very well. I had it cut at a place once for £10 and it was nice but not worth it when my mum can cut it for me. My gf does a good job also :)

Some places you can get a very good cut some you can't. Not just the place but depends on 'who' the 'stylist' is and how much experience they have.

My bro gets his cut at £30-£55 if he gets it coloured.

They may offer some good advice to what may look good with the shape of your head and how your hair hangs though. That may be worth trying once I guess for the interview. Tell them that and they make come up with a 'new' look for you.

I used to get $12 all the time too, but dude closed up shop... now I get it for $20 and I'm actually sorry I didn't find that place sooner... rather pay the extra $8...

It all comes down to personal preference... the price isn't going to necessarily determine the outcome, so you just have to be the judge :)

While I don't pay $30+ for a salon cut, I do prefer a stylist over a barber. The barbere I went to just goes "short? short? short!" It's decent for the $10 bucks I paid I guess. But I've always come out much happier and I find the stylist listens to you more and are more creative. You wear your hair everyday, so I'm willing to pay a little more.

Skoorb shut your fvcking opinionated trap. 'Flaming Metrosexual'? A little bit testy, no?

Anyhow, to get my haircut is about 45 bucks, I do it because no one else can get my haircut done right, or understands what the idea of texturizing is (I have very thick hair, so even if it's cut right down it still feels heavy).

I've found it's worth it, and the kicker is my hairdresser is gay. Do I care? No.
