anyone know any good restaurants in sf? prefer somewhat fine dining, not too cheap. its for a winter formal dance. a few of my friends can't seem to find a restaurant. i've heard that Aqua in downtown in one of the best restaurants. anyone can confirm?

If you don't mind the BO later on, go to the Stinking Rose on Columbus.
Don't go to the other italian restaurant on Columbus. I forgot what's it called, but it's the worst and most expensive food I have eaten in SF. It was just horrible. It's the one with sliding window doors.

<< go to that one that was featured on foodtv, where its hanging over the ocean

yeah it's called cliff house. it's in consideration also.

Try Caffe Sport if they are still around if you like Italian food. My daughters classmate father works at the Stinking Rose(GARLIC CITY) and he brings samples to my kids school. He is a wonderful chef...

Go to any of the places on the top floor of hotels...I've been to a few and they all are fantastic. Be ready to spend about 100 bucks per couple though 🙂

You can go to MOMO's right across from PacBell or Charthouse, by the bay ... both are very nice restaurants.

Nah, even better then Charthouse is McCormick and Kuleto's in Ghiradelli Square. Nice place. The views are great and the atmosphere is wunderbar. On the same price level as Charthouse.

Ghirardelli square has a nice atmosphere with good restaurants if you want to be by the bay. Great view of the bay bridge from there.

Does it have to be in San Fran?

If not you could try the Moss Beach Distillery at Half Moon Bay.

It's about 1/2 hour outside the city and is has a spectacular (sp?) view during sunset. (When it's clear)

Plus....it's Haunted. So they say.

I was there once...really good food. Could be fancy...but it's not a requirement for admission. If you know what I mean.

Want something nice, try the dinner cruise on the Hornblower yachts. Not too much of an idea of cost but I don't think extremely pricey. I'm sure they have a website.

zagat survery is generally a good guide.
but a local resturant near me got an "award plaque" from the Zagat Survery,
it wasn't THAT good. service was quite horrid too

its Pho 79 on Garfield cross Main in Alhambra, CA.
